This is an amazing opportunity to get a view of most of Victoria, a large part of Vancouver Island and on a clear day (I'm told as it was cloudy of course) you can see Seattle!
Even without being able to see mountains and Seattle across the bay, this was a gorgeous view and well worth the five minute, moderately steep climb. The path is well maintained and the stairs are well hewn, so you aren't scrambling up or down hillsides.
I saw plenty of plants still blooming in mid June, as well as multiple Monarch looking butterflies (I'm not an expert) fluttering about. I managed one not so cruddy photo of one of them after trying to take one for several minutes. They just didn't want to stay still for two seconds.
The drive up here is beautiful as well and you can park below and walk up the curvy road. As such, there were several points where walkers were taking up half the road or simply stopped having a chat in the road. Take it slow and easy.
There is a gate for the road going up to the top parking lot. It closes at sunset I believe it said. Your car is stuck there if you didn't get out by then. There is a porta potty up at the top, not a brick and mortar building for washroom activities. There is a dial with major landmarks and directions at the center of a seating area at the very top. Most people were standing on the white, stone bench seating though, to get the best panoramic view possible.
I loved every second of being in this...

Read moreGreat view of the city of Victoria from the top of Mt Tolmie. I like to make solo hiking on holidays or the weekends when it’s quiet to stretch and get some steps. I found a pet neat pond at the base of the mountain in the west side and it’s refreshing to pause and hear the sounds of water, birds, winds and trees harmonizing. Sumner is d certainly a good time to great views of the other islands...
