Today (11/22/23) there was a very rude older woman with glasses assisting at the self checkouts at the mall entrance. She was rude from my first interaction with her.
I was waiting to use the checkout and saw that there was a lane open and walked up to it, she stopped and advised me that another customer was using this. I noted there was a Christmas DVD on the scanner and the transaction appeared suspended. I proceeded back to wait my turn and another self checkout then opened up. As I began checking myself out, this same employee stood behind me and watched me scan all of my items. It was very obvious I was being profiled for some reason. Ironically, as well, once I started scanning my items she reset the other self checkout I mentioned and let the patron behind me use it.
I finished checking myself out, and since I parked near the entrance by Mark’s, I walked out of the mall entrance with my cart. This same employee (older woman with glasses) followed me and said that I couldn’t leave, and further that I couldn’t leave HER store with a cart and that I had to come back—she went as far as to walk outside of the store and grab my cart and drag it back. Of course, I had forgotten my reusable bags in the car so I hadn’t bagged any of my items. As she did this, I asked why she was doing this, as I had scanned all of my items correctly and asked her why she was singling me out. She advised she was “just doing her job” and proceeded to drag my cart back into the store. I had to follow as she had my merchandise I’d paid for. She then asked “do I need to call security?” and at this point I could tell that the interaction was escalating quickly.
She also asked if I wanted to buy a bag. I then advised I did not want/need her help and I would leave at another exit since she was actively blocking my leaving at this exit AND I did not feel comfortable interacting further. This employee seems the type of person to make a false accusation (I.e: that I tried to not scan an item when I scanned every item in my cart).
This employee was working the self checkout near the mall entrance at the far end of the store. I did not get her name. I wish I had. I then left via the main exit at the front of the store to the parking lot and had to walk a long distance to my car, but did so as I was afraid to get anywhere near this employee, given how the interaction had quickly escalated.
Please consider this, and shop elsewhere if you can. This experience was horrible. I’ll personally be going to another Walmart location or shop elsewhere. Lately, I’ve been preferring the Welland Ave location—friendly staff, and wider selection of products especially those hard to find products that are never in-stock at...
Read moreEvery time I have the displeasure of visiting this particular Walmart in St Catharines, we always have issues with the employees at the check out. A couple of weeks ago, we decided to go through the self check out but wanted to pay cash, something that we have no issues with at other Walmart locations. I pushed the 'i need help' button to call over an employee. One of the female employees made direct eye contact, folded her arms, then turned her back towards me. Not to help another customer, just to stand with her back facing me so she didn't have to help me, I assume. Last night we had another issue at this same Walmart. It was 9:45pm. I had 3 bags of chips and 6 energy drinks. We wanted to pay cash at the self checkout, so we pushed the button and an employee came over. We told her we would like to pay with cash, but she told us that they already took the tills out, but we could go to one of the other checkouts. She suspended the purchase, printed the recipe and told us she would send the receipt over so they didn't have to re scan everything. So I go over to the other checkout. My spouse asked why they took the tills out so early at the self checkout and the lady at the cash told us 'they don't, they're open until 10'. I am unsure if she just didn't understand the question 🤷♀️ They scan a receipt and tell me the total will be 87.00. I asked them to check that again but they were 'sure' that was the total. I then took everything out of my bag and asked them to please scan them again because that total couldn't possibly be right. The first girl who suspended the purchase tried coming over to make sure they were scanning the right receipt but the female employee who was at the till and now a male employee that came to join her, stood there staring at the tills, completely ignoring her. Eventually they did figure it out and got me my correct price, but by this time it was now after 10pm. They are very disorganized at the tills and some employees seem like they just couldn't be bothered to...
Read moreI was at Walmart tonight Christmas shopping with two of my friends, (one of my friends has a critical condition in her legs and causes concerning amounts of pain and affects her to walk at times). We grabbed a cart for our items and for her to sit in so she can still enjoy shopping with me and my friend without her having to have the pain in her legs and body. One of the employees named Darlene was extremely rude to us, forcing my friend to stand again, began grabbing our bought items from the Pencenter that was in the cart and our items from Walmart that was not purchased yet, and aggressively threw them in the cart saying where the items should and shouldn't be inside the cart. She gave us a very bad attitude saying only toddlers and babies should be sitting in the cart and treated us like we were reckless customers. She never let us explain to her about my friend (who's a young teenager and not a grown adult) that had the condition in her legs. Im very disappointed in the staff here and how they handled this. My friend left emotionally in tears saying she never wants to step foot in any Walmart again if this is how customers who has conditions like hers get treated. I hope my review makes a difference in the way staff handles situations like...
