Worth the risk? While this theatre has nice seats, it is a complete crapshoot whether or not you will get to see a movie or not. Came over a half hour early for a matinee show and it sold out. About fifty or so of us slowly dispersed and tried to explain to our kids why we had to leave. This location has three glaring problems: 1) There is only one screen and matinee shows are rarely scheduled. So one show a night. Wow. Winkler, a city with a smaller population, has five screens with four shows per screen per evening (as of this writing, during the Christmas break). So why this theatre was built stunted is beyond me. Plus the city chipped in to construct it! Incredible. 2) Cash only. Listen, 2006 called and they want their third-party bank machines that charge transaction fees back. If a hair salon can handle a card transaction, a theatre should too. Thanks for passing the buck. 3) No pre-sales. Thus the waiting and gambling to see if you actually be able to see a movie or not. I'm not even going to talk about the awkward line-creation that occurs when all of the early birds finally form a line in front of the doors. BONUS #4) Forcing customers to pay for their tickets AND food at the one and only cash(only) register creates a bottle neck slowing down the whole transaction event to a standstill. Which is lovely because there is nothing to look at on the walls of the foyer or curling rink walls (movie posters? Nope. Just inside the theatre but you don't want to stop sprinting and miss getting a good seat). So we are forced to stare at the flameless firepit outside (that's a whole different story) or the frozen vomit in the patio area. Yay! Choices! So, is it worth the risk? They are a monopoly in Steinbach. Maybe save yourself the time waiting in line and just drive to Winnipeg. Buy your tickets online on your way there, enjoy the posters, the movie atmosphere, and enjoy an actual theatre...
Read moreThe theater is a great theater, the one thing that bothered me was the cash only option, which I'm not sure I saw online prior to going. I was a little upset that with the drink I recieved, I had to tell the employee to replace the lid which was put on the counter. Even without being in a time during a pandemic, and also haven taken the food handling classes a few times, I feel that was unnecessary and unsanitary... the employee also looked like she second guessed herself with the whole situation of using the original drink lid.. so if that was the case using the same lid after it being on a surface that so many other people touch and currency could have been exchanged on was dissapointing to see. Hopefully it was just a bad mistake or a bad night cause I'd still go back despite this situation. But that could be because it's the only theater in Steinbach.
Just on another note..I also always think something fishy goes on with businesses that only offer cash only services. It just seems like a way to keep money...
Read moreI think it's a very good theater, and the staff are super friendly. The big chairs are really comfy, and the prices are great. I prefer it to any theater in the city. There are a few things I would like to see changed: They only accept cash. You have to purchase your food and beverage while you purchase your tickets, resulting in a slow moving line. The popcorn with butter is not as good as it used to be. (Update: popcorn has improved) The ticket prices list adults starting at age 15. Adults are usually 18 and up... not sure how they can do that. These are minor things that hopefully will be changed soon. The overall experience is...
