North Thornhill is one of the most recently built community centres in the area and the entrance atrium is beautiful, with coloured panes of glass which reflect the light all year round. The pool is on the right as you come in, and I do aqua fit there regularly. The instructors are fantastic, the pool temperature is just right and there is a spacious hot tub as well as a children's splash/shallow pool. There areas where people play table-tennis, a swimming pool gallery, a basketball court and a small, but well-equipped gym, where small spinning and other classes are held in studios attached. The gym changing rooms are good but the whole place is badly let down by the changing areas in general - all of them. In the women's and family rooms there are only THREE private cubicles IN TOTAL (none in the women's room!), which is totally inadequate. The showers for full/gym members are fine as they can be switched on and the temperature controlled, but in the women's and family change areas they come on by faulty sensor, the shower head can't be moved and jets of water switch off after TWO seconds - hopeless for showing and also likely to get you and your towel soaking wet if you are daft enough to try and put it on in the cubicle. Goodness knows what the planners of this place were thinking either in the main changing rooms, there have been too many slips and falls to count as the tiles are too large and shouldn't have been put down. Everyone knows (I thought) that you have to have small, mosaic-like tiles where people are walking around water, to avoid slips and trips. Apparently, no one told the construction workers at North Thornhill and this must be changed before there is an even more serious accident, or even a death, there. On a more positive point, the desk and management staff there are absolutely great, as are the gym staff - you couldn't wish for a nicer team of people to look after you at this...
Read moreThe place was built in 2010, so it’s still new and in great condition. Well maintained.
The swimming pool is one of the best in comparison to other nearby community pools. The family change room was in good condition. Most pools only have open showers, but here we have many walk-in showers.
There is a Vaughan public library here. It has few kids activities like matching the items, blocks, counting and stuff. There was even a small, live turtle in there. Kids love it. There are a few computers with learning games for kids.
There is a very nice kids play area outside. It has a good variety of activities such as rock climbing, slides, swinging ship, swings and many other structures.
There is an Upper Canada community daycare as well. My son used to go to the same daycare but at another location closer to our home. The rates are very nominal.
There is a North Thornhill fitness centre, but I guess you need membership.
There is...
Read moreSwimming lessons here all depends on the instructor you could get. My daughter has been swimming here for almost 2 years. Some of the instructors they don’t even bother come to the water let alone to teach students anything. She just got her report card and there are skills that she needs to complete and practice more. My complain here is that how come I never saw this instructor to even work on this skills with my daughter for 3 month since she started her lesson. If she was not doing it right how come you did not teach her or at least correct her. That is why they are there to improve by learning. You must be lucky to get an instructor that really care and teach or at least correct students. My recommendation is that you should ask from instructor for feed back at lest every other week otherwise they would easily fail your kids without even teaching...
