Britt Café Bakery – Liberia Airport (LIR), Costa Rica Title: “Britt Café: Where Your Wallet Gets Mugged and Your Taste Buds Go to Die”
Oh Britt Café, where do I begin? If your mission is to “positively impact your customers,” then I must’ve been the control group for what happens when everything goes wrong.
I’ve traveled through airports on six continents. I’ve paid $10 for a sad croissant in Paris, $12 for a soggy hot dog in Tokyo, and even $15 for a cup of mystery soup in JFK. So I understand captive-audience pricing. But Britt Café at LIR has managed to achieve something I thought impossible: to be both hilariously overpriced and tragically terrible at the same time.
Let’s talk about the food. A $14 salad served with less than half an ounce of dressing (I wish I was exaggerating—see photo). It tasted like someone mixed white vinegar with a personal vendetta. A sandwich so poorly assembled it looked like it had been cut by a blindfolded raccoon, and the three lonely slices of meat fell out immediately as the roll disintegrated like it had just learned about gluten-free TikTok.
We ordered two ginger sodas, only to be handed warm plastic bottles—not a glass of ice or cup offered. And yes, they knew they were warm. They shrugged. Probably trained to. The staff didn’t seem rude, just disinterested—like even they knew this was a corporate cash grab disguised as a “gourmet experience.”
Total damage? $33 USD. For warm sodas, one sad salad, and a sandwich that fell apart faster than your mission statement when put to the test.
Now, about that mission statement. You tout “integrity,” “excellence,” and “awareness.” You might want to pull that copy down before someone chokes on the irony. There is nothing gourmet about your food, and the only “experience” I had was the overwhelming desire to get on a plane and never look back.
Next time I visit Costa Rica, I’ll happily go out of my way to fly into San José, and you can bet your overpriced coffee I’ll never ever buy one of your products again.
To the owners: I hope you read this, because no one deserves to pay luxury prices for airport gas station food. Shame on you for turning what could be a great final taste of Costa Rica into a $33 slap in the face.
To the staff: Sorry you have to work here. I hope you get better training and better leadership soon.
Final rating: 0 stars, only because I can’t give negative numbers.

Read moreMy recent gastronomic escapade at the airport’s culinary establishment was nothing short of sublimely transcendent. From the very first moment of ingress, I was greeted by a waiter of magnanimous amiability and unparalleled professionalism. His demeanor radiated such courteous benevolence that one could scarcely believe this was an airport dining experience rather than a five-star epicurean symposium.
I partook in a sumptuously constructed barbecue bacon burger—a veritable masterwork of gustatory architecture. Each bite was a harmonious symphony of smokiness and savor, its flavors resonating upon the palate with orchestral grandeur. The bun was pillowy yet structurally steadfast, the bacon crisply ambrosial, and the barbecue sauce imbued with an ineffable tang of celestial delight.
My family, ever the culinary adventurers, indulged in the chicken quesadillas of immaculate composition. The tortillas were silken yet resilient, cradling a mélange of perfectly seasoned poultry and molten fromage that could only be described as gastronomic euphoria incarnate.
In summation, this dining experience was utterly ineffable—a rare confluence of culinary artistry, impeccable service, and atmospheric charm. Should fortune ever guide my travels back to this terminal of taste, I shall indubitably return with ravenous...
Read moreWe got stuck with a delayed flight, so this was about the only option. The selection is ok, but the staff is impressively ineffective. The first time I ordered a coffee. It took about 10 minutes (they were very busy). They finally called out my name, started to bring out the coffee (I could see it), and then got called away, depositing my coffee on a counter with no label. After a few more minutes, I managed to convince the remaining staff that it was mine, but if I hadn't been paying close attention, I would never have gotten it.
I came back after it was clear that we would need dinner. I ordered 2 salads, and they called to the back, ostensibly to make them. It was pretty empty. After a long while (several other diners ordered, got their food, and left), he reached into a refrigerator and pulled out 2 premade...
