I rarely review restaurants unless they absolutely blow my mind (in a great way) or leave a foul taste in my mouth... the latter sentiment being the case at hand.
My girlfriend and I are sitting here at Gate 3 of the Liberia Airport, waiting for our flight home, and after being treated very rudely by staff over at the "Players Bar & Grill" Restaurant on the second floor of the airport I have decided to put the establishment in the spotlight.
We arrived early because we are traveling internationally, and have three hours to kill. So, naturally we bee-lined straight to the nearest bar. As we approached we were greeted by a hostess who asked us where we would like to sit. My girlfriend suggested the crowded bar- I objected to sitting in a bar chair for the next three hours and proposed sitting at one of the open high-top tables along the back wall of the restaurant, offering comfortable, diner-esque booth seats, facing the in-coming diners, perfect for people-watching (my all time favorite past-time at the airport) as well as a prime view of the TV's, all set on various sports channels and the normal actions that ensue at the airport.
As we approached the precious high-top table we were blocked out by another one of the Player Restaurants' staff, who in a frenzy was trying to explain that he could not allow us to sit at one of the coveted high-top tables with the birds eye view, as they were reserved for groups of four although there were NONE in sight, and no line to be seated.
As I tried to negotiate with the server, explaining that we would be more than happy to move to another table if at some magical moment the other 90% of the empty restaurant tables were sudden seated- he rudely interjected offering no lee-way, and not offering any type of middle ground to accommodate us. I have worked in restaurants for the past ten years and understand the importance of keeping seating open especially for larger groups; however, when you have two customers thirsty for over-priced and under-poured cocktails, willing to pay the high-way robbery prices at the airport bar, for THREE hours-you facilitate the thirst!
Back to the story: When I pointed to a gentleman sitting alone at his computer at one of the tables reserved for tables of four, I was told that it was the owner. I am sitting here debating going over to speak to him about his set in stone seating policy, perhaps he would be more sensible than his staff... however, as of now, I will not be spending the next three hours of my life drinking cocktails/beer and supporting that man's business.
The Players Bar & Grill Restaurant, located in the Liberia, Costa Rica Airport in front of Gate 4 is the Soup -Nazi of the Liberian Airport.

Read morePlease do yourself a big favor and avoid this place!!! Eat before you go to the airport. Horrible service, even worse food, and way too expensive. $75 for a burger-fries, tenders-fries, 3 beers and a shot of Vodka. It took us 45 minutes to get our food and all the Manager could say was sorry!! KMA! Our waiter a "Jeter" look-a-like, forgot about us and then when I flagged him down for a beer, he tried to give it to the person in front of our table in less than 30 seconds. I had to go to the bathroom to not explode right there. I did curse at the table "out loud no less" and left a bad impression. I can tell you this, they like the US Dollar but don't like Americans. If he/they were treated that way in the USA, we would be called racist. it is sad really, we had a great vacation but leaving put a sour spin on it all. All I wanted was food, beer and decent service till I got back to the US. Sadly, I hate to give them 1 star. If I could give them a -10 I would. Read the other reviews, my opinion is not the only one like this. Ownership is to blame for letting the manger hire and train people like our server. Again, avoid Players Café in the Airport at...
Read moreI really wish there was a way to give this place zero stars, but there isn’t so if you enjoy terrible customer service then this is the place to go. As soon as my BF and I received our food we were asked to move from our seats( we did have all of our belongings with us we are in an AIRPORT, so we started to move our stuff and the server came over and asked again as we are in the middle of moving our stuff) there were seriously another 25plus seats available for other customers to use.-At this point I’m ready to go and ask to speak with a manager to tell her that the way the server asked us to move twice as we just got our food was very unprofessional, she wanted to argue with me too instead of apologizing for the inconvenience.... we also just spent $60 in this place on seriously the grossest chicken strips I ever had... the strips we just fried breading (I didn’t even go there with management because at this point in time she wasn’t listening about the server) so if you feel like throwing money out the window you will probably have a much more enjoyable experience doing that then coming to this very unprofessional establishment.
