Smiling Horses — Local services in Monteverde

Booked a horseback sunset tour with Smiling Horses because of the good recommendations and being listed in the lonely planet. Looked up the location beforehand, but were told they would leave from a different location these days. When we arrived at the told location, we were surprised to see it was a different company which they apparantly booked us with without telling us! Area where the horses were kept and helmets looked totally different and had a different name. Horses didn't look that well kept, some had wounds and others insect eggs in their ears. Also the helmets were not very safe with cracks or defect buckles. Additionally it was supposed to be a really large group of people (20) for the sunset tour. Since it was not at all what we expected we said we would not do the tour, but the lady insisted we still had to pay. Tried to call Sabine multiple times but no one picked up the phone! Cannot say anything about the real Smiling Horses rides, but booking people with a different company without telling them is a really...

We couldn't have asked for a better riding experience. We got to do a 2-hour ride with Sabine and we absolutely loved it. The landscape was amazing, we had a lovely chat with Sabine and the horses were absolutely lovely and well taken care of. You can tell Sabine has a deep love and respect for her animals and the horses look absolutely stunning...

Expérience équestre très décevante ! Chevaux en mauvais état, certains chevaux sont blessés avec des plaies ouvertes qui baignent dans le sang et on les laisse ainsi en plein soleil avec une chaleur intenable sans aucun soin !!! On nous vend du rêve en nous disant qu’on va faire une superbe balade à cheval avec des cascades d’eau Etc...et finalement on fait juste une balade dans des prés,champs et un tout petit peu de forêt ... notre guide ne parlait même pas anglais mais uniquement l’espagnol ... On pensait arriver dans un endroit comme sur la photo (publicité totalement mensongère),ni Sabine sur le lieu,ni un bel endroit comme sur la photo mais plutôt un endroit sale,pas présentable,très très pauvre !!! Les chevaux sont très maigres et peu/pas soignés, étant une grande cavalière amoureuse des chevaux,j’ai été très peinée pour eux !
