Adrenalina Rafting — Local services in Turrialba

The whitewater rafting experience with Alan, our captain, was amazing - I booked for my x2 daughters (aged 8 and 12) and myself on a whim and we all loved it. The rapids were super exciting and the scenery spectacular. We were allowed to swim/float down the river on some of the calmer stretches which was really cool.

Even though the river was rough Alan expertly guided us through the big stuff in full control which was really impressive. Where x2 rivers merged we stopped for some tasty tropical fruit snacks on the banks of the river which my kids really enjoyed. I'd highly recommend this experience for families and adrenalin junkies alike.

Optional extras were also really good value for money - the professionally taken pictures of your trip down the rapids was only $40 for the entire boat ($20 for me as I split the cost with another couple in the same boat) - considering you got more than 20 shots i was genuinely surpised at the value - normally you get charged more than this per photo for similar experiences so its great to see a company not taking advantage (which they could have done) as taking your own pictures in this situation is tricky (i certainly didnt want to take my phone with me).

The food was also great!

All in all this was a really well organized experience - we had a blast - thanks to captain Alan for your expertise and Jason ( the water sloth) for your humor and...

Pros: Mario is hilarious and amazing and personable and great. He rides the bus to pick up in San Jose. Others pros: it's a beautiful river and they are safe and reliable company I guess

But....

Our guide was awful. We traveled all the way to Costa Rica specifically to raft the legendary pacuare river. Our guide intentionally skipped every single rapid. We got none of the big waves or fun splashes that any of the other boats got to enjoy. I'm a guide myself on the Arkansas river in Colorado so this was just rediculous. It ruined the trip. He wouldn't let us jump out in flat water and swim. He really made the trip so boring. If I wanted to go see beautiful scenery I would have stayed near San Jose and gone on a family friendly float with our baby, who we paid a lot of money to have babysat by a very reliable school nearby. It was very difficult logistically to make this trip happen and our guide made it such an unpleasant experience.

I'm just so dissatisfied with my experience going on the river because our guide was such a wuss. We missed every opportunity for big waves and fun rapids. So lame. I wouldn't go with them again but I'm sure it was just the guide. But damn was...

These guys are the real deal. From pick up to drop off we were treated wonderfully. The river is absolutely gorgeous and our guides were AMAZING! Jose and Ariel (sorry if that is spelled wrong) took such great care of us during our trip. Very knowledgeable, Safe and so FUN to be with. Total professionals. The company owner Manfred runs a great operation. The pictures they took were unbelievably great as well and so worth the money. Then there was the lunch at the end of the trip, we watched 3 other groups from different companies come in and they got their pictures and left while we were eating a wonderful lunch of Caribbean chicken with rice and salad.
