We were looking for an adventure in historic and interesting sights in the countryside near Lyon and we found exactly what we wanted in the Beaujolais Tour from Kanpai Tours. There were 8 people in our group and we all fit comfortably in a Mercedes step van. We started in a small scenic village near the edge of the Beaujolais which featured a scenic vista of the region. Next up was the quaint village of Oingt and a walk around this hilltop town. Next up was a sparkling wine winery with tastings of several of the local sparkling wines. We had lunch in an excellent restaurant with a variety of choices including meat, fish and vegetarian options. Then we were on our way to a winery that produces Beaujolais red wine from the Gamay grapes. The wine harvest was just finishing up and we met the wine maker and his son (who had to climb into the crusher to clean it out between batches). Our last and final stop was the medieval village of Pérouges which is a 13th Century village that is partially restored. It was like stepping in time and it was a wonderful conclusion of the tour. This business is run by Olivier who planned a great tour and was an excellent guide. FYI Beaujolais is a fine everyday wine but if you are looking for high-end French wines you might be better off with a Burgundy...

My wife and I did a tour of the Beaujolais region with Kanpai Tours during our honeymoon, and agree it was one of the best parts of the trip. Our guide, Olivier, was amazing from start to finish. During our drive to the wine country, Olivier shared with us the history of the region, details about the winemaking process, and countless fun facts about the area. Along the way, we stopped for a couple of beautiful photo opportunities before stopping to tour Oingt, a gorgeous village at the top of a hill. After walking around the town, Olivier took us to a great tasting room where we tried sparkling wines from the region. We then drove down the hill to a beautiful vineyard, where the proprietor walked us through the grape harvesting process before offering us a generous tasting of several wines, meats and cheeses.

The tour was one of the highlights of our trip. Olivier was a professional but friendly guide that made sure everyone had fun and stayed well informed the entire time. We will definitely be reaching out to Olivier again the next time we are...

Olivier is an amazing host and genuinely a wonderful person. His tour company came highly recommended. I found Olivier’s to be very reasonably priced for what I would ordinarily expect. However, Olivier’s tour is not ordinary at all. He spent the time to understand what we wanted to see and what was really important for us. He personalized the full-day tour, including special stops and wineries, and even went beyond what I’d ever expect by researching and translating information about a very particular aspect of the tour we had a deep interested in. On tour day, he arrived early, his English is very good, and he made sure that everything was translated for us. He had a fully packed schedule for us, yet at no time did any aspect of the day feel rushed or as if we were on a purposely timed schedule. He seems to know all of the winery owners personally and knows the roads around Beaujolais very well.
