Potsdam Central Station — Local services in Potsdam

One of a main train station in Berlin which has good choice of shops and food outlets at the station as well as 5 minute tram ride to the main shopping street, 10 minutes to the shopping mall, and a short walk to the riverside parks, cathedral and art gallery. There is also a ticket office and tourist information centre inside station. There are escalators, stairs and lifts to all platforms. I wouldn't say a 5* means I love a train station. However, signs, maps, trains were all clearly identifiable as an English speaking tourist. I do rely heavily on Google maps just to double check we're heading in the right direction. A better explanation of the ticketing and fare system would have been helpful but I bought what I thought was applicable and argue later not that anyone check during our entire vacation. The station is fine, but the Information booth is staffed by an old, sullen relic from Soviet times who yelled at the old German couple in front of me, who left cowering, and when I asked him in English if the train was cancelled, he started yelling at me in German.
