Verbal violence and insults at Edeka
I've been a customer of the EDEKA Baisch at Hauptstraße 5, Stuttgart for three years. I went there today after work for groceries.
At checkout, their employee mistakenly scanned an item that wasn't mine. It might have been from the customer before or after I don't know, but it wasn't mine. I told her immediately and she acknowledged it and took the item away. But when I checked the receipt, she didn't cancel the item and I still paid for it.
I told her and she redirected me to her colleague. I don't know why she can't issue a refund for me herself. But anyway, I went to her colleague and tried to explain things with my limited German. Well, the whole point of going to a supermarket as opposed to a market or diner is that you don't have to talk to people! If they didn't make the mistake, I wouldn't have had to go through all this to begin with.
This second employee was rude from the beginning, but nothing strange for German service. After some difficult exchanges, she refunded me in cash. But I paid by card! Shouldn't you refund with the same payment method? Otherwise the public have reasons to suspect Edeka of money laundering! Also it was very annoying for me, because who's going to use 2-cent coins?
At this point I was already really frustrated with the whole experience and wasn't happy at all. But I didn't say anything to the very rude second employee. However, she started yelling at me violently for absolutely no reason! I didn't understand everything she said, but her tone and body language was extremely violent. I suspect she was insulting me. It's one thing to offer the infamously horrible German service, but it's another thing to insult your customer violently. I believe that violent words and gestures are not tolerated even in Germany!
I made an official complaint to Edeka but they'll probably send back a meaningless letter and cover up for this horrible person. It's just not okay to yell at people and be verbally violent with others. If her parents didn't educate her properly, she needs to do it herself. Not everyone is so good tempered like me to just let go of her horrendous...
Read moreShopped here almost exclusively in 2023 as my preferred grocery store in Vaihingen out of the many stores in town. But so far in 2024, they have really regressed and quality as well as selection has decreased significantly. To the point where I’ll likely never return after several disappointing recent visits. They must be understaffed or not orderly products properly. Lately many of the shelves are empty, so they either run out early in the day and don’t restock or they simply don’t order and stock regularly. And the other major disappointment is the produce section. Onions and garlic are often either dried out or rotting, although the seasonal asparagus and strawberries this spring have been good. But, too many bad visits in a row, so it’s time to switch to Kaufland,...
