My visit to Kata Lounge proved to be an intriguing journey of ups and downs. In early April, my friends and I eagerly sought to secure a reservation, but our hopes were dashed when the promised callback never came. Adding insult to injury, our attempt to visit the restaurant in person was met with discourtesy, as a rude server at the entrance turned us away, stating a full house and slamming the door in our faces. Undeterred, we decided to give it another shot in early May, hoping for a better experience.
Arriving promptly at 10:30 am with four friends in tow, we were greeted by a pleasant and attentive waiter. Opting for breakfast, three of us opted for the American breakfast, while the other two went for the English breakfast.
The American breakfast offered an array of options including waffles or pancakes, chicken, cinnamon French toast, eggs cooked to preference, sausages, bacon, fresh strawberries and bananas, accompanied by a glass of juice. Two of my friends ordered pancakes whilst I ordered waffles. They received 2 pancakes each which were fluffy and delightful. It was a tad disappointing to receive only 1 waffle instead of the expected two, but it was still delicious ad filling. The French toast was also tasteful, and the well-seasoned chicken was a hit amongst us. However, the sausages were rather basic, and the overly salty bacon left much to be desired. Despite this, the scrambled eggs and cheese omelette were well done.
Although we were promised strawberries and bananas, we received mangoes and apples instead, which left us wishing for better communication regarding the fruit options.
For beverages, we opted for fresh pineapple juice, which delayed in its arrival, but which we still enjoyed alongside our meal.
As for the English breakfast, it was a hit overall, except for the overly salty bacon and bland sausages.
Despite the hiccups, we found the breakfast offerings at Kata Lounge to be both delicious and affordable, earning it a solid recommendation from me with a rating of...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about this place, so I'll start with the negatives. I went there for brunch one Saturday, and upon entering, there was a lady mopping at the door. Even though she saw us, she continued mopping without excusing us to pass by and had a frown on her face. Once inside, there was no host to direct us to a seat, so we stood there unsure of where to go, especially since there was both indoor and outdoor seating. When we asked the cleaning lady where we should sit, she rudely told us to ask another lady sitting in a small room by the entrance. That lady also responded rudely, telling us to sit outside because we didn’t have a reservation. While we were okay with sitting outside, she acted as if we should have known this, despite the lack of any guidance. I hadn’t even sat down yet, and I was already put off.
After finally being seated, a waiter came to take our orders. We ordered the American and English breakfasts, and he asked how we liked our eggs and what juices we wanted. I requested the juice to be brought out first while we waited for the food, and he agreed. However, after more than 30 minutes, there was still no food or drink. Despite asking multiple times, the waiter kept assuring us the drinks were on their way. Ironically, the drinks arrived with the food. When my English breakfast came, it didn’t include the egg. I pointed this out to the waiter, and he questioned whether eggs were supposed to be included, which was frustrating since he had not long before, asked how I liked them. I had to show him the menu to confirm that eggs were indeed part of the meal. He apologized and rectified the mistake.
Now for the positives: the food was good, and the portion sizes were satisfying. Although the toast was a bit too hard, I enjoyed the meal overall. The pineapple juice and strawberry daiquiri were nice. Their prices are also affordable. I might give them another chance, but they definitely need to improve their service, and the friendliness of...
Read moreAtmosphere: Went there during lunch time. The environment was appealing with the incorporation of plants and the choice of decor. Choice of music was great as well. We felt very comfortable and before we knew it, we had spent about 4 hours there. There is an outdoor and indoor space. The indoor space is for reservations only.
Service: At the entrance, I was met by a lady with a very stern face who asked if I had a reservation and to be honest she came across as rude. It will be great if she can work on her approach to customers because that really threw me off as someone who went there for the first time. This was however compensated for by the lovely service given by our waiter and the supervisor who offered us cocktails (Bra Kwame cocktail) on the house. Hence, 3 stars for service.
Food: I enjoyed everything from my smoothie to the main meal. We ordered the same smoothies but the presentation was not the same (the both had different toppings) which was quite confusing. Consistency will be a plus for next time.
I had fresh pineapple juice as well which costed GHC55 but I did not think it was worth it. It was served warm and in my opinion was too expensive for the quantity. I was attracted by the appearance of the fried rice and decided to order that. Tastewise, it was just okay, but could’ve been better with more seasoning. The pork bites were juicy and well seasoned. Assorted noodles also tasted good but the presentation of the fried egg on top could have been better.
I enjoyed my time there and will...
