This restaurant, from my perspective, used to be a solid 10, and I would happily make the 150 km day trip for their excellent ice cream and delicious pastries. However, my recent experience has left me deeply disappointed.
I've been visiting this place monthly for the past two years, always making it a point to stop by, especially for their amazing pumpkin and pistachio ice cream, which I consider the best. My last visit this year was on March 3rd, and everything was as superb as usual. I ordered my usual three scoops, and all was well. ( I will also attach an image from 3rd of March and from this weekend ).
So, you can imagine my surprise when I returned this weekend, eager for a taste of that heavenly ice cream, only to find that the scoops were significantly smaller than they were just a month ago. I inquired with the lovely and friendly staff, who confirmed that indeed, there had been changes made to the size of the scoops. Not only that, but the taste seemed different from previous times. The ice cream melted far too quickly, despite the moderate temperature outside (only 22 degrees Celsius) - meaning that there were some changed made in the recipe.
As for the pastries, I arrived at 2:30 PM to find that my favorites, Szicilia and Elegancia, were no longer available, with only a few varieties left from the extensive list they used to offer.
It's sad to see the cups downsized while the prices remain unchanged, and to also see a decline in the quality of the ice cream. I used to enthusiastically recommend this place to friends and would even make special trips just to taste in their pumpkin and pistachio ice cream. However, this weekend's disappointment was too big, and it no longer worth the effort to make such a journey, especially when what used to fit in one cup now barely fills two.
I would appreciate it if my feedback were considered and read by the management, as it could lead to improvements. I would like to give it another chance and be pleasantly surprised by you not only through the hospitality of your staff but also through the price-quality ratio of...
Read moreFirst time in this confectionery in Szeged. Great location, very central close to the centre. Their pastry and cake selection is excellent but we went first and foremost for the sundae which I saw online. I was not disappointed. Amazing presentation and absolutely blooming great taste. The fruity gelato was one of the best I had in a long time. I chose “mango & passion fruit”, “raspberry” and “blackcurrant and yuzu” and oh boy were they great! The coffee (Cortado) was good, though not super hot but that was not an issue, it tasted good. The “Imperial Earl Grey Tea” was lovely too, well presented, very fragrant and they offered lemon and honey with it which is virtually unheard of in the UK but that’s the way to have it. Top scores there.
All this for a reasonable price and in a great atmosphere in one of the finest secessionist palaces in the whole of Hungary. Can...
Read moreExcellent local spot however the negative service tainted our experience here.. the team has no sense of customer service or knowledge of coffee leading to a petty interaction with a server.
We simply asked to correct a very watered down coffee served as an ‘Americano’ recieving a harsh response that this is their ‘standard’ and since she can’t do anything else with that item, she will have to charge us for both. To us this is more about principle and we were surprised by this type of response.
I only hope the management can take this feedback into consideration - just because someone is American they don’t mean to have a very watered down...
