My Journey of Hope and Healing: A Tribute to Dr. Ganapathi Bhat and Jaslok Hospital On March 1, 2013, I underwent a stem cell transplant at Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai, a life-changing moment that marked the beginning of my recovery from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a disease that had gripped my life with fear and uncertainty. I was first diagnosed in August 2012, and began treatment in Bangalore. However, after four months of chemotherapy, the doctors informed my family that the treatment was not responding. It felt like the end of the road. I was losing hope, and the future seemed bleak. But in the midst of despair, a ray of light emerged through the support of my honorable boss and well-wisher, who referred me to Dr. Ganapathi Bhat, a renowned oncologist at Jaslok Hospital. More than just a doctor, he was a compassionate human being who saw beyond the illness and gave me a reason to believe again. By the time I reached Jaslok, I was in a critical condition with low blood count . When I met Dr. Ganapathi Bhat at Jaslok, he spoke to me at length, patiently explaining my health condition in detail. His words brought clarity and comfort, and most importantly, he gave me a ray of hope when I had almost lost it. Dr. Bhat recommended a stem cell transplant, a procedure I was initially hopeless about. The thought of undergoing such an intense treatment was overwhelming. But Dr. Bhat’s magical hands, his deep expertise, and the unwavering emotional and technical support from his entire nursing team gave me the strength to move forward. The transplant was successful. Today, I am happily married, living a peaceful life with my family, a life I once thought I would never have. Throughout my journey, Dr. Ganapathi Bhat stood as a pillar of strength in my life. When I was battling cancer with only a 15% chance of survival, it felt like a miracle that I recovered. And I truly believe that miracle was made possible by the unconditional empathy, patience, and kindness that Dr. Bhat poured into my care. His approach was not just clinical, but it was deeply human. Dr. Bhat always ensured that my treatment protocol was evidence-based, personalized, and adapted to my evolving condition. During the peak of a critical medical emergency, when hope seemed almost lost, we found our way to Jaslok Hospital. What could have been an absolute nightmare, with our loved one in a very serious condition, became a journey of hope and healing thanks to the exceptional doctors and staff – the true Angels of Jaslok.

Facing our darkest medical emergency, Jaslok Hospital emerged as a beacon of hope. While the prospect of a hospital stay during such a critical time was daunting, the extraordinary care provided by their dedicated doctors and staff transformed our experience into one of unexpected support and eventual recovery.

Dr. Milind Khadke was our initial point of contact, reaching out with genuine care and promptness during a moment of immense uncertainty. His consistent support and regular check-ins throughout our 20-day stay were invaluable. We are deeply grateful for his unwavering dedication and feel truly blessed to have had him guide us. Dr. Sadashiv Chaudhary and Dr. Dhimant Singh Goleria were truly God-sent. Their expertise and compassionate care for Pravin were evident in every step of the process, through both challenges and progress. We are profoundly grateful for their constant attention, availability, and the thoughtful consideration they showed not only to Pravin but also to our family. We hold them in the highest regard. Dr. Tirupati developed a special connection with Pravin, and his genuine care was palpable throughout our time at Jaslok and continues to be felt. We will forever cherish his kindness and support. Thank you to Dr. Ritika and Dr. Nirmee for their constant presence and exceptional care in his emotional well-being . We couldn't have asked for a better team. Dr. Avneet’s daily check-ins and proactive approach to pain management were deeply appreciated. Her genuine kindness and care along with daily check-ins made a significant difference, and we are forever grateful. The physiotherapy team, including Dr. Stanley, Dr Leena, Dr. Neha, and others, were instrumental in Pravin's recovery. Their unwavering dedication and efforts helped us overcome significant barriers. We are incredibly thankful for their perseverance.

The nursing staff on the 15th floor were truly exceptional. Sisters Aparna, Savita, Rupali, along with the entire nursing team - Rutuja, Ishita, Priyanka, Priya, Sakshi, Vidhula, Abhirami, Sanjivani, Anjali , provided round-the-clock care with unwavering compassion and efficiency. Their attention to detail, prompt responses, and genuine kindness made an incredibly difficult time more bearable. We also want to acknowledge Bala at the front office, who was always helpful and welcoming, and the dedicated pantry staff – Malini, Sumati, Sheetal, and Madhuri – who ensured our needs were met with a smile. The ward boys, including Rupesh, Mukesh, Hussain and others were always ready to assist. This entire team felt like a family, and their collective efforts created a supportive and comforting environment.

I also want to give a special mention to Rupali, the patient experience manager, for always taking the time to check in and see how we were doing.

Finally, we would like to express our immense gratitude to Mrs. Kanta Masand, a silent yet powerful force of kindness, compassion and love. I was admitted to Jaslok Hospital on 6th January 2025 for the treatment of a neck parapharyngeal abscess, following an initial diagnosis completed in Qatar. During the pre-surgery evaluation at Jaslok, I was also diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure, which added complexity to my condition. Despite this, the entire hospital staff went above and beyond to ensure I received exceptional care, and I am deeply grateful for their unwavering dedication.

My heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Paresh Naik, my primary surgeon, whose expertise, precision, and compassionate approach made all the difference in my recovery. He took the time to thoroughly explain every step of the procedure, ensuring I felt confident and well-prepared. I am also profoundly thankful to Dr. Chandalia for his expert management of my diabetes and to Dr. Anand Bhabor for his meticulous attention to my high blood pressure. Their combined expertise and commitment to my well-being were truly remarkable.

I would like to extend special gratitude to Ms. Reena, the PRO, whose professionalism, efficiency, and unwavering support ensured that every aspect of my hospital stay was seamlessly managed. Her proactive approach and genuine care significantly alleviated any stress and allowed me to focus solely on my recovery.

The nursing staff deserves immense appreciation for their kindness, dedication, and tireless efforts. Their constant attentiveness and compassion provided me with comfort and reassurance during every moment of my stay. I am equally grateful to the housekeeping staff for maintaining an immaculate level of cleanliness and hygiene, creating a safe and healing environment that was essential for my recovery.

Additionally, I would like to thank the billing and TPA departments for ensuring a smooth and hassle-free insurance and billing process. Their efficiency, clarity, and professionalism were truly commendable and contributed to an overall seamless experience.

I am also deeply thankful to the discharge team for making my discharge on 16th January 2025 a smooth and efficient process. Their professionalism, care, and attention to detail ensured that I left the hospital with all the necessary information and in good health, bringing an end to my hospital journey with ease.
