Umbria tour guides and experiences - UMBRIA CON ME — Local services in Assisi

Well they certainly "conned" me...! (play on words realise Italian "con" means with). We had a tour with Francesca today. She thought only of herself and her next tour rather than the current groups enjoyment and safety. Supposed to be a "small group tour" but 12 people were on the tour (company only think of profit). The tour guide was late turning up and then everything was rushed including her walking. We could not hear her properly as she was not walking with the group when she was talking and then some of those who could manage to hear unfortunately could not understand her English. She almost made the whole group leave the church so that they could hand back their headphones even when they were not ready to. I am not impressed. I learnt more from returning to the Basilica post Francesca's tour with the guidebook I had with me and overhearing tour guides from other groups. I contacted the company directly to give them chance to comment/explain as why the quality of this tour had been so poor but unfortunately no explanation was forthcoming. Therefore I can only recommend that you choose a different company if you want a good tour of the Basilica. I actually enjoyed Assisi more when Francesca was not present. Need I say more other than don't choose...

We had an amazing day tour with a gifted local tour guide, Michele, who filled the day with historic facts and interesting stories about his home of Perugia and nearby Assisi.

Both were beautiful and history rich places that were influenced by Saint Francis and Roman inhabitants long ago, to name a couple.

Michele was a skilled historian and story teller who was interesting and engaging as he shared information about people, places and objects. The day flew by so quickly, it was sad to leave and we all wanted to have more time to learn more.

Michele had a skilled driver, Maurzio, who safely and professionally delivered us from Perugia to Assisi, while sharing some stories about his home in Assisi during the drive.

I highly recommend this tour as a wonderful learning experience and a feast for your ears and eyes! Gracie...

Our guide Analita was fantastic! Her knowledge of each site in Assisi and St Francis was exceptional. In addition, she connected the journey of St Francis with the social and political history at the time of his existence and the impact he had on the Catholic church, the style of art being rendered and the change of thinking in leadership. We spent the entire day with Analita and her sense of humor and patience combined with her excellent execution of visiting All the important sites ( of which there are about 7 or 8!) , especially considering we visited on a Sunday when many sites have limited hours, was superb!
