Royce’ Chocolate World — Local services in Chitose

Royce’ is a famous chocolatier from Hokkaido. And they just so happen to have a huge shop in the Chitose airport. There are a fresh pastry selection made with their chocolate, chocolates with kid-friendly themes, and fancier "nama" chocolate, which is what they are best known for.

Given that Royce is famous for their chocolates, I had to pick some up as "omiyage" to give to some friends since I was in town... sadly, I bought nothing for myself other than a delicious pastry. New Chitose Airport is a most amazing airport. It is not only somewhere you go through, but also a destination in itself. This Royce Chocolate World is one of the many things that make this wonderful experience.

It is a tiny museum where you can see a brief history of chocolate, including a very nice collection of chocolate packaging and another of printed advertising. There is also a modern demo factory in production behind a huge window.

チョコレート菓子の販売店舗、チョコレート工場、チョコレートの歴史が展示されているミニ博物館がある、北海道の菓子メーカー『ロイズコンフェクト』が提供する新千歳空港内のアミューズメント施設です。単におやつやお土産としてチョコレートを購入するだけでなく、チョコレートが如何にして作られるかを見て学ぶことが出来ます。チョコレート工場は、空港内であるため本格的な工場設備よりもかなり小規模ではありますが（主な用途が客に向けた展示であるため）、それでもガラス越しにチョコレートが作られている様子を直に見られるのは非常に貴重な体験かもしれません。 この他にも、カカオからチョコレートを作るためのカカオマスやココアパウダーが作られるまでの行程、チョコレートの歴史、チョコレートラベルやチョコレートモールド等、洋の東西を問わず各国から集められたものが展示され、世界各国で昔から愛された食べ物であることが分かります。 工場のガラス越しの見学やミニ博物館は無料で利用できるため、目的の飛行機に搭乗する前の空港内での探索にうってつけかもしれません。

This amusement facility in New Chitose Airport is provided by Lloyds Confect, a Hokkaido confectionery manufacturer, and includes a store selling chocolate confections, a chocolate factory, and a mini museum with exhibits on the history of chocolate. Visitors can not only buy chocolate as a snack or souvenir, but also learn how chocolate is made. Although the chocolate factory is much smaller than a full-scale factory facility because it is located inside the airport (since its main purpose is to exhibit the making of chocolate to visitors), it's still a very valuable experience to see how chocolate is made directly through the glass. Other exhibits include the process of making chocolate from cacao mass and cocoa powder, the history of chocolate, chocolate labels, chocolate molds, and other items collected from countries in both the East and West, showing that chocolate has long been a favorite food in countries around the world.
