Ryokan Sansui is more a modest, family-run minshuku than a ryokan, but no less charming and hospitable. A 2-storey house on a street corner close to the centre of Furano, it's run by a sweet elderly couple who also live there. Yume understands a bit of English if you know no Japanese. She was a darling, letting us park our car in her yard, insisting on driving us the few blocks to Kumagera for dinner on a rainy evening, offering an optional paid breakfast so we could get an early start (no eateries open before 11am, except McDonald's).||||There are 4-5 rooms, typical uncluttered tatami-style with folded bedding; the mattresses and pillows were very comfortable! Shared bathroom, sinks and toilets - all very clean. Towels & toiletries provided. We enjoyed the Japanese bath; there's only one, so you might have to wait your turn. There's a toilet on the ground floor and another on the 1st floor; also a communal kettle (bring your own coffee/tea), hair-dryer and washing-machine for guests. A supermarket is a block away, and downtown 5-10 minutes' walk, Furano JR station 15-20 mins.||||The only (minor) issue was lack of wifi. But almost all restaurants & cafes in Furano have free wifi. It didn't much bother us, but we were there only 2 nights. If not wedded to wifi, Sansui is a very good budget option and we'd certainly stay...

Read more😊: The host was so kind and welcoming. She met us on arrival, always put shoes out ready in the morning, continually tidied the communal areas, emptied bins, washed up mugs, and made sure we were okay. The room was comfortable with a fridge, fan, air-conditioning, seating area, tissues and plenty of sockets. Although we were hesitant about the shared bathroom, I never had to wait yo use it, there were toiletries provided and it was clean and tidy. Considering there are quite a few rooms sharing the one bathroom I was pleasantly surprised. There are 2 toilets and again, one was always available. When we left, our host came out to see us off and waved us goodbye. No, it's not a top quality hotel but in many ways is much better, as it's an authentic Japanese Ryoken and I couldn't fault the service. All for a reasonable price compared to other nearby places to stay. I'd definitely return.. 😢: The air con didn't work as well as it could have, due to the window having to be partially open for the vent, but did a fair job and the fan helped! Just a minor...
