Sasayama Shrine in Kurume is a peaceful and historically significant spot tucked inside the old Kurume Castle grounds. It’s a beautiful place to visit, especially if you enjoy quiet shrines that carry a strong sense of place without feeling too commercial or crowded.

The grounds are well maintained and surrounded by trees, giving it a calm and reflective atmosphere. It honours the Arima family, the former feudal lords of the area, and you can really feel that connection to Kurume’s past as you walk through. If you visit in spring, the cherry blossoms around the site are absolutely stunning.

It’s just a short walk from Kurume Station, so easy to include in a day trip. The blend of castle ruins and Shinto tradition makes it unique, and it’s a great way to experience a quieter, more authentic side of Fukuoka’s history.

■篠山神社は、競馬の有馬記念ゆかりの神社です。競馬ファンは、一度は訪れて参拝し、隣にある有馬記念館で、その来歴を学び、運をつけて、万馬券をわがものにしましょう。

■久留米城の本丸御殿の跡地に建立された神社です。祭神は、有馬豊氏（とようじ）、頼永（よりとお）、有馬頼ゆき（ぎょうにんべんに童）、頼咸（よりしげ）、頼寧（よりやす）の藩主５人です。

■明治維新後、多くの城がそうであったように、石垣は売却され城郭の解体が決まっていました。ですが、久留米の原風景を失いたくないと、ブリジストンの石橋さんら地元の経済人が買い戻して守ったのが現在の景観です。本丸御殿の跡地に、神社が建立されて、いまも神となった歴代藩主たちは久留米を見守っているのです。

久留米城跡の中に鎮座する『篠山神社（ささやまじんじゃ）』 こちらの篠山神社は5人の歴代藩主を祀られていますが、創建時にはご祭神として名君と名高い藩祖有馬豊氏（とようじ）公命と、7代藩主頼永（よりとお）公命の2柱、のちに10代藩主頼徸（よりゆき）公命、11代藩主頼咸（よりしげ）公命、近代農政の指導者頼寧（よりやす）公命が加わり、5柱となりました。

篠山神社は、この辺りの神社には珍しく独立型の社殿となっています。独立型とは、拝殿、弊殿、本殿と別々に分かれ独立した型です。

幣殿の中には入ることができ、本殿の前まで行ってお参りする事ができます。

篠山神社が建立される前は、この辺りは久留米城址の本丸御殿の庭園がありました。

拝殿の隣には社務所があり、お守りや御朱印などがいただけます。
