Kaiun Soba — Local services in Otsu

Found this little gem during a day trip from Kyoto to Lake Biwa. Super good soba and tempura! Restaurant staff don’t speak much English so what worked for us was showing photos from Google Maps. Highly recommend, everything was delicious!

Great soba! Loved the chewy texture of the soba and the tasty soup. I got the hot Kaiun soba - perfect for winter!!

It's a bit cramped inside. Just 4 big tables so you may have to line up. Good thing there's a waiting shed where you can sit and wait until you turn.

圓満院門跡の門内にある、お蕎麦屋さんです。

勅使門が閉まっているので、門前から見ると「やっているのかな？」 と思いますが 圓満院門内に入ってすぐ右手に進むと店舗です。

店頭にある紙に名前を書いて待ちます。

10組待ちで90分待ちました。

店頭屋根下に床几（しょうぎ）があり、座って待つことが出来ます。

入店までに注文を確認されますので、事前にメニューを見て決めておきましょう。

店名と同じ、開運そばの定食をオーダー。

しいたけやししとうなどの野菜の天ぷらが乗った温かいお蕎麦（開運そば）に炊き込みご飯、煮豆の小鉢、漬物が付いています。

温かい蕎麦なので、冷たい蕎麦ほど蕎麦自体の味は際立ちませんが、三井の名水で作られていると言う、出汁美味しいです。

蕎麦湯、しっかり蕎麦の味と香りがしました。

支払いは現金のみ。 お手洗いは店内にないので駐車場のお手洗いを使いましょう。

駐車場はGoogleMapで「圓満院門跡・開運そば駐車場」を検索して目指して。

三井寺門前の有料駐車場に停めないように。

係員に誘導されたら 「圓満院の開運そばに行きます」と伝えましょう。

途中でレンゲと蕎麦湯をお願いしました。

妻と2人で行っていたのですが、 「2つ」と明確に伝えなかったからかもしれませんが どちらも一つしか持ってきてくれませんでした。
