Taxi driver at the Takayama Station said something that sounded like the hotel is close. We used the taxi to travel one block down and one across from the station... that is how close the hotel is to the station. Very touristy gift shop around the station.||Very classic entrance to the 6 floor hotel.||||Shoes off at the door and a very warm welcome. You then chose your kimono for your stay which includes breakfast. Great location as restaurants are just behind the hotel and more in the down town area.||||The room was still far bigger than our expensive Tokyo hotel with separate toilet from wash basin and bathroom with tiny bath. However, you have a very clean and well facilitated onsen. With very hot water. Gender split.||||Breakfast was a place to wear the kimono and you cook at your table with the little fires. (Eggs and bacon or traditional Japanese and plenty of everything else. It was fun to seeJapanese and westerners dressed in the kimono. ||||When you go out for dinner the staff make up your beds on the floor and yes they are comfortable. To wake up the next morning very warm and comfortable and then see snow everywhere outside was one of our cherished Japanese moments. ||||Ten o'clock check out is a hassle except that your bags are held for you.||||Remember that the slip on shoes will make the changing at the front door...
Read moreour stay was not bad! As other reviewers have mentioned this place is about 20-30 mins from the city centre by walking. It’s an easy enough walk to town, but can be a lot after a full day of sightseeing. When we arrived there was no mention about the robes in our room or where the baths were or anything at all. I actually discovered from these google reviews that the only showers were located in the bath! They really push for patrons to buy their breakfast ($960 yen)-‘this was the only thing mentioned to us upon arrival. If we hadn’t stayed at a ryokan before we would not have know what to do. For that reason and comparative to other places we have stayed at I have rated this place a little lower. we also noticed that they saved the rooms with the mountain views for the locals. We were placed in a room beside the thermal heater and could smell gas fumes during the hours the bath was open. The room itself was super clean, washrooms very clean and the breakfast was good! the owners don’t speak English but are very nice! I probably will not stay here again unless there are no other options closer to town. For tourists visiting Takayama I would suggest a place closer to town as it saves you time sightseeing especially if you plan on seeing some sights nearby Takayama that require...
Read moreThe place is very easy to find. Buses are accessible and if you want to roam around the town by foot, it’s just 25-30mins. It’s a typical ryokan that I think is a family owned. It’s extremely clean and the room is spacious with a yukata waiting to be worn. The indoor and outdoor onsen are amazing! After a long day, you can relax in it. The staff are very helpful and they make the best breakfast and dinner we have ever had in Japan. The rice they use as well is from Gifu. It’s fluffy, light and not too heavy on the tummy. If Im not mistaken, we paid around £130 for 2 nights, this includes breakfast. 2,500 yen per person for a dinner which was definitely worth it!!! The Hida Folk Village is just 6mins by walk. I highly recommend this place and I will come back again in the future! Takayama has my heart ❤️...
