I love kewpie mayo and turns out they have a small tour in their Sengawa, Tokyo office. Its an hour tour - where we learned history of kewpie mayo and all the process from creation to distribution.
You have to reserve your spot for the tour as it’s nit a big group due to space constraints. Preferably book in advance to secure your spot. I booked ours about a month in advance.
The team that delivers the tour speaks English although a little challenging but kudos to them!!!! We can still follow the narrative and understand. They also had a session where we can try kewpie mayo with mix with other ingredients.
There is a small gift shop as well in there. Credit cards accepted in the souvenir shop.
Overall is quite a fun experience and kids friendly! Few participants brought their kids on strollers. Small lockers provided for free to put your belongings (bags or small items) not large size suitcases fits...
Read moreDefinitely Recommended! Tour is free and given in English. They separate you when you get there so you don’t need to sign up for a specific English tour. (This may change in future since it’s been getting more popular with foreigners). Tour is interesting with a tasting of different mayo flavors like 1/2 calories, no egg, smoked and flaxseed oil. They don’t make the mayo there any more since the area has become more residential. The guide goes through the history and process of making the mayo through video and some demonstration. There’s a cute mini game you play with each other as well. At the end you have your choice of free gift and a little goods shop. Most of the food items you can buy at the local supermarket and for cheaper...
Read moreA super fun stop in Sengawa. This tour was free but you needed to book your slot in advance on their website. You’re able to choose in person whether you’d prefer an English or Japanese guide (based on their availability) I loved being able to see the process on how the famous Kewpie mayo is created. This tour is very cute and animated with lots of interactive activities, as it seems to be geared towards children but it was thoroughly enjoyed by a couple of adults. Very informative as well as fun, you get to sample potato salad that’s made in their kitchen as well. Definitely make the time to stop in! The area is great for exploring as well as it’s not busy as city centre but there are still many shops and restaurants to check out...
