This is the stop for Takahata-Fudoson, which is only 5 mins away from the station. It is also a connecting station to Tama Monorail which runs a north-south suburban route in Tama area. It isn't a large station relatively speaking but there are plenty of chain restaurants in the station building and a few locally owned good finds around it. 京王本線と動物園線の多摩動物公園行の分岐駅となっており、全ての列車種別・京王ライナーが停車する、東京都日野市の主要駅であります。主要駅は当駅の他、府中駅もあります。

2000年（平成12年）から多摩都市モノレール線が乗り入れ、多摩センター方面・立川方面へ行くことが出来ますが、駅舎が離れているため、乗換は面倒。中間改札もありません。橋上の南北自由通路が新設されたことにより、駅ビル「京王高幡ショッピングセンター」とモノレールの駅が直結されて便利になりました。１日の乗降客数も京王線が約６万人、多摩モノレールが約２万5,000人の人数が利用します。

深夜時間帯で、新宿駅からの特急高幡不動行は、当駅から各駅停車京王八王子行の電車が数本あります。南平・平山城址公園・長沼駅をご利用の方も安心して行けますよ。 大規模なダイヤ改正以前は、特急高幡不動行の最終電車は当駅止まりでしたが、今現在は終着駅である京王八王子まで行くことが出来るようになった。当駅始発・当駅終着の列車も設定されています。
