Overall, I would highly recommend this Hostel. It is away from the busy loud areas and close to very local restaurants and coffee shops that I enjoyed checking out. The Hostel itself is extremely clean. The beds are private and they don’t squeak and the mattresses are comfortable. the shower had hot water available and was separate than the toilet, which is great in a Hostel. Two things were not my favorite, first the staff did not seem knowledgeable about recommendations for food such as the Chocolata clams that are recommended on the poster right next to the desk, or where a nearby ATM was. Secondly, they shut down the entire kitchen area at 10 PM which means you cannot have access to water, the sink, or the fridge. This posed a challenge for me as I was getting up early to scuba and needed access to the breakfast items I had placed in the fridge the night prior. Luckily a staff member happened to be around early in the morning and I was able to access the fridge, but it put stress on me to not have access to the water or fridge during the night. I wish they would just block off the stove/oven to disallow cooking during these times and not the entire area. Oh, also they block off the pool area 9p-9a but there is a nice flat space up there where you could do yoga, but you’re not allowed up there until 9am…. I would have liked to do some sunrise yoga there. Overall though, I would definitely stay again. Everyone was friendly and I liked the location. The WiFi...
Read moreThis is a nice clean hostel in a central location, I have enjoyed staying here in the past as it is a social yet chill vibe. However the last time I was here I came back from scuba diving on my last day after check out (6.30pm) and hung my damp rashguard and leggings on the washing line to dry while I was waiting for my ride at 8pm.. staff told me I wasn't allowed to "use the facilities as they are only for guests and I already checked out and the facilities cost money". I could understand if I used the kitchen, had a shower, or charged my phone.. I literally did none of these things, just sat outside still covered in salt, phone on 12% battery talking with other guests. The wind is free, what cost is being borne by using an empty washing line? Edit to add: the hostel was less than half full at this time, no where near "capacity" 💁🏽♀️ cost was what was specifically mentioned, not number of guests. Then the hostel owner messaged me on WhatsApp to complain that I left a review when his staff were the ones who asked me to leave a review in the first place...
Read moreHad a really good stay at Sunset Hostel in La Paz. While it isn't the fanciest hostel I've ever stayed at, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had at one. The owner Mariano is one of the nicest guys I've ever met and went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable and enjoying my stay.
When I mentioned after my first night that the wooden ladder was a bit hard on my bare foot, that the bed was a bit hard for my liking, and that I wish I had a shelf next to my bed for my charging phone, he went out and put foam on the ladder rungs, a foam pad on my mattress, and installed a shelf for my phone while I was out for the day! He even went out and bought a luggage scale when I had asked him if he had one I could use to weigh my luggage.
He takes going above your expectations to the next level and as long as you're not expecting luxury (what are you doing in a hostel if so?), you'll have a blast...
