Possibly the largest art gallery building, this place way down Centro may be larger than the delightful art gallery over in the mammoth Unidad Cultural, the city cultural center, library, theater, playground and so on. It's right there with the Whale Museum, which is a tiny spot of knowledge compared to the cultural center. El Museo de Arte does have the largest intentional display of streetlights I've ever seen. And just today, the city of Tijuana says that at least 30 percent of that city is unregulated and without any street lights, cops or much of anything else other than people and houses. You wonder, though, wouldn't they at least have an OXXO? But anyway, the street lights are here in La Paz at the big art...

I will freely admit that i am not into art that much. I understand that there are people who would like this display of paintings. But for me some of the art had dark undertones and much of the rest was just plain weird. It does not seem to me to be good art that the general public would enjoy. Which is odd given the type of town La Paz is. I would have expected a much more family friendly, accessible, generally enjoyable and admirable display that what there was there. An excellent example of this would be the decorated VW bug. It is sensational. But it's all down hill from there. The best part is outside and just...

Definitivamente me encantó...

Yes, come here!!! A great midday respite from the heat, plus amazing art. If, as a tourist, you’re not feeling called out, you’re not paying attention. Let this experience affect you and rethink how you travel and interact with the locals. Lean into the discomfort, that’s where you’ll grow. The museum is free and they have free tours. They also have small free lockers for your water bottle or food etc. Take your time, read every description (via Google translate) and BE where you are.

The highlight was the amazing painted panels stretching a large wall that depicts the passage of time in the baja since prehistoric times. In addition, the Lucha libre display was really interesting and it explained why it is such a huge cultural event in Mexico. The explanation of devil masks, angels and other cultural and artistic folklore was also interesting, especially how fear was used to manipulate people even centuries earlier!

Great design of the building but not much to see when I went. They do change the exhibits so maybe with others there is more to see. It was free and very quick visit, stayed like 10 minutes to see the upper and lower floors. They had a combination of modern art and some traditional. Mixed mediums. They also have a small store to buy items related to museum. It’s great to see if it’s on your way to someplace else.
