So compared to American Walmarts, I'm not upset about the prices. The people...horrible. This Walmart is full of locals that see tourists EVERY DAY...and they can't even be bothered with our translator when we're just trying to find a few basic items. Multiple times this happened or they just walk away. Or continue to speak in Spanish when we tell them (IN SPANISH) we don't understand. Actually, just yesterday (Sept 19th), my man and I went up for a few items, as we have almost everyday of our vacation. We just so happened to grab a few souvenirs as well. I typically bypass cashier lines because I really do think I can do it faster...but this self checkout... nightmare fuel. And not one plastic bag in site...I didn't realize I was at Sam's Club... ANYWAYS. After the first experience with self checkout (days prior) being absolutely infuriating, we decided to just go through a cashier's line. We get our items up on the belt. We got another reusable bag. All was good. After paying, my man asked where one of the keychains went. We went searching through the bag and couldn't find it anywhere. We stepped off, out of the way and began checking our receipt. It's not that the keychain was expensive, but we just didn't want to leave without an item we paid for. This old woman in a pink shawl/vest came over and basically started SHOOING us towards the door. I couldn't understand what she was saying and told her so (in Spanish). She gave me...a look of disgust and just shrugged her shoulders at us and SHOOED us AGAIN! I don't know why she would treat ANYONE like that... especially when they're just trying to read their receipt.
Despite this negative interaction, I still loved how different this location is compared to the U.S. Their fresh bakery was AMAZING and I loved all the fresh meat/seafood...
Read moreWalmart is Walmart. Doesn't matter, Canada, US or Mexico; you know exactly what to expect. Reasonable prices for what you need. This one had a lot of the same products and brand names we have at home. They even had a dollar store, within the store. The problem that I encountered was a lack of communication. Being from Canada, I speak very little to no Spanish. They spoke very little to no English. I know, I am in Mexico but Walmart is an American franchise. This Walmart is located in San Jose. It is surrounded by Resorts. People from all over the world come there. The universal language is English. It is obvious that Walmart knows that Canadians and Americans will shop there. They have a souvenir section. They had Cabo San Lucas t-shirts in the mens section. Souvenir beach towels at the end of another aisle. Yet, not one employee, I spoke to, spoke English. I asked a stock person where the Pepsi was and she didn't understand me. She had a Pepsi t-shirt on. I pointed to her shirt and she had to think about it. We were looking for Vanilla. We kept repeating Vanilla. Is Pepsi and Vanilla pronounced differently in Spanish? We had to google Vanilla and show them a picture for them to understand. I am not asking them to change the signs in the aisles or anything drastic but if a large portion of your customers only speak English, hire someone who...
Read moreThe Walmart in San José del Cabo is a great option for both locals and visitors who need a wide variety of products in one place. Located on Calle Valerio Gonzålez, Campo de Golf Fonatur, this store is big, clean, and very similar to Walmarts in the U.S. It has groceries, household items, electronics, clothing, and a pharmacy section. One of the best things about this Walmart is convenience. Prices are reasonable and often better than some local supermarkets. They carry fresh produce, meat, dairy, and even some imported goods, which is helpful for tourists. The store is generally well-organized, and most staff are friendly and helpful. The store hours are usually from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, making it easy to shop anytime. Parking is available, and the location is easy to access from the hotel zone. The only minor downside is that it can get crowded during peak hours, and sometimes the checkout lines are long. Also, some specialty items might not be available compared to larger Walmarts in the U.S. Overall, this Walmart makes shopping in San José del Cabo very convenient and affordable. Highly recommended for groceries and essentials...
