Condumel proved to be a surprise for our family of three. The location is perfect for families wanting to get away from the nuisance of the cruise ships and big resorts. We were close enough to town that we walked less than 1/2 a mile to a local restaurant, or we headed northward towards a more serene part of the island. I was a little worried about the condo's proximity to the airport, but after being there 5 days, learned that the major airlines (American, United and Southwest) usually have one arrival and one departure within 1-2 hours of each other between 1:00 and 3:00 pm. so the noise is minimal.
Access to the water is unbeatable. You can snorkel anytime you please or even fish a few yards away but still on the property. There are several beach chairs, lounge chairs and even a nice covered picnic table so you can enjoy the unbelievable sunsets.
The best part of our stay was the staff. Clara, the property manager, was kind, welcoming and accommodating. The on-site 24 hour security gave us peace of mind. The daily cleaning service left our condo clean and stocked with fresh towels. The grounds manager, swept all porches and common areas each day, raked the sand and cleaned all lounge chairs and manicured the shrubs and grass.
The only very minor drawback was that the condo did not have Wi-fi or a TV which actually turned out to be a blessing. The condo's decor is modest and traditional. There is an A/C unit in the kitchen, and ceiling fans in the two other rooms. We were comfortable when we circulated the cool air throughout the condo. The kitchen was stocked with a microwave, blender, coffee pot, toaster oven and electric cooktop (no big oven). The staff stocks the fridge for you (bread, juice, eggs, milk, beer, water) which is all available at a very modest cost listed on the refrigerator (e.g., a 20L bottle of water was $1.00 USD).
The condo says it can sleep 3-4, which is fine for a family with smaller children that can sleep on a large sofa. Otherwise there is one king size bed.
We will definitely...
Read moreOwner threatened me over a final balance of $237. There was no communication about the check out process until I asked, the morning before I had to leave at 6:45 am. The woman at the office told me I could pay then or at 5pm, which was better for her. I returned late (5:12 pm) to find the owner waiting outside my room. He wouldn't accept my credit card and was upset that I didn't have the cash. There was no prior communication about not accepting credit cards. I offered Zelle, the only app they use for deposits ($500 in my case). I am a small framed woman, he is a tall broad shouldered (american) man. He barges into my room uninvited, looms over me to supervise my phone screen while I make the Zelle transaction. The Condumel wifi didn't work (sketchy all visit) and neither did my data. He implied I was trying to weasel out of my bill by pretending the app didn't work, though he saw everything on my phone. I was extremely uncomfortable and wanted to get away from him. To avoid further in person contact, I suggested to swim and catch my last sunset and that he would receive digital confirmation by 7:30pm. The story ends with me spending the last night on the island doing nothing but trying to settle the bill, as I had always intended to. Then staying up all night with my door wedged shut as best I could, afraid of every noise, after Zelle doesn't work and he threatens me in various ways including TAKING ME TO AN ATM TO MAKE ME WITHDRAW THE CASH. There was no deadbolt on the door. Very...
Read more4/22/23 - This was our first experience at Condumel, and we were very impressed. The condo is located about 30 minutes walking distance from the ferry, without luggage. So, depending on your haggling skills, about $100-$150 pesos or $5-$8 American cab fare...(not bad). The entire facility is dated; however, I love it just for that reason. Beautiful architecturally, which kind of gave us the Mayan vibe here! It has a full kitchen with basic amenities including juice, milk, water, eggs and beer, all stocked and for purchase at a more than affordable price. It's not even worth buying at the OXO or Cendrali for beer or juices. We had condo 6 and couldn't have asked for more! Breathtaking views from our huge balcony with sounds of ocean water splashing off the rocks. Amazing snorkeling is located right off of the beach! 😍 The staff... we loved everyone! It's no wonder why there were so many repeat visitors to this spot. We're so happy we visited Condumel and we'll definitely be back! 👏...
