The bridge connects the Noordereiland with the Feijenoord district . The first Queen's Bridge was a swing bridge built in 1870 . After fifty years, the bridge was an obstacle to both shipping and road traffic; it was also unsuitable for trams .
In 1923 it was decided to build a new bridge: a double bascule bridge to a design by AH van Rood . Construction started in 1927, [1] after the old bridge was moved in 1926 to the east side of the railway bridge, in line with Oranjeboomstraat. The new bridge was opened on June 14, 1929 by Minister of the Interior and Agriculture Kan . [2]
