My family went there after the WWII memorial event on War Memorial Day. We got there by bike and only found a few bike parking spots opposite (NOT nearby) the theater entrance and we had to walk the bike across the road. The small bike parking area next to the Wilhelminaplein Metro station was full, so we headed further down the road and that was not convenient when travelling with kids. For car parking, you would have to pay quite a lot. Perhaps if you plan to spend hours at the theater, you can consider buy the parking exit ticket at the theater or park further away for free and walk 6-8 minutes to the theater.

The theater building itself is spacious with a very modern design. You expect to walk a lot of long stairs (with or without wide steps) up and down and to get to different levels. Nice view to look out through tall glass window panels! The food counters were not all open wherever the crowd was, and we found beverages were pricey at the bar indeed. Inside the seating hall, which is beautiful and enough legroom for tall people too, can accommodate plenty of audiences (even with seats on upper levels), but I find it uneasy to get in and out of the long seat rows.

Audiences in the first show were told to get their electronic mobile devices logged into the designated theater network and that was actually the entire performance. To me, that was not too impressive, maybe for kids! The second performance, which was about the life story of two young persons from eastern Europe (old time of Yugoslavia) before, in and after the war. The performancers seemed to do a good job, but the long story with loud sound effects made me feel dizzy and a bit overwhelming!

Dit theater is ontworpen als theater, gebouwd als theater, ingericht als theater en in gebruik als theater. Het is een groot theater, die altijd wel grote producties toont. Het is ruim opgezet, meerdere verdiepingen hoog, en de zuidkant is een glazen pui die uitzicht geeft op de Maashaven. Het heeft, zoals andere oudere theaters geen 'gezellige warme hoeken' of verborgen garderobe. De zaal heeft diverse balkons, tot aan het dak. Vanuit elke stoel heb je goed uitzicht op het toneel. Je merkt aan diverse dingen dat het een flinke zaal is. Zo kijken de balkons op het toneel. Bij grote concerten kan je op schermen de vliegensvlugge vinger-bewegingen volgen die over de fretten van de gitaarhals glijden. Niet boeiend. Het gaat om het geluid. Dit theater heeft geen grote schermen, en dus gaan bijvoorbeeld gelaatstrekken van komieken voor veel mensen geheel verloren. En dit is juist een belangrijk detail. De artiesten richten zich meestal tot de zaal, en zelden tot de balkons. Bij binnenkomst, bij de buiging, enz. Het publiek zit voor hun, recht vooruit. En niet boven hun. En dan is de zaal eigenlijk 'te groot''. Bij onze kaartjes waren het gebruik van de garderobe en het pausedrankje inbegrepen. Wijs besluit denk ik, want samen met de ruim opgezette foyer kan het publiek effectief de avond worden doorgesluist. Het is mij ooit overkomen; drankje bestellen en tegelijkertijd begint het orkest aan ronde twee. Het aangrenzend restaurant tel ik niet mee, die heeft zijn eigen openingstijden. Er is geen eigen parkeergelegenheid, je zal het moeten doen met de openbare parkeergarages in de buurt. Die zijn te vinden tussen de bewonersgarages. Volg de borden. Wij zijn gekomen met het OV. Met de metro, had ook met de tram gekund. Metrostation Wilhelminaplein heeft drie uitgangen; erg gunstig, bijna gunstig en niet gunstig. Ik heb niet gekeken of het theater wordt aangeduid als uitgang. De metro is snel en rijdt frequent. En dat hadden blijkbaar meer mensen door; het perron stond na afloop van de voorstelling redelijk vol. Een theater kies je niet, je kiest een show. En blijkt dan dat we naar dit theater moeten, dan is dat prima. Elk theater heeft zijn karakter.
