Gulf Harbour Country Club — Local services in Hibiscus and Bays

Had the absolute displeasure of playing what I can only describe as the most unwelcoming golf course I have ever played. Me and 3 friends booked a 4 ball here as we found it for a good price (well at the time we thought it was). On the first tee we were approached by a man who described himself as the “manager” like it was a title he had battled hard for his whole life to attain. We teed off and this “manager” proceeded to follow us down the first hole, this is where it gets bizarre, this guy followed us for the first 13 holes, staying about 100m back and watching every single shot, when we played the par 3s (I think there was 3 or 4) he would whiz past us in his golf cart and stand down next to the green and wave us to hit down towards him. After 13 holes we finally managed to shake off what I can only describe as a very disturbed and confused man. We had 1 hole of peace and quiet and then out of no where and young man who I later realised was his apprentice/sidekick followed us for the remaining 5 holes and watched every single shot we played. Never had such a strange golf experience in all my days playing. If I had payed the full summer rate of $300 I would of asked for a refund because all in all it’s a bang average golf course. It was our last visit to NZ before the lockdown that still til today nearly 2 years later has our borders still closed.

This Trent Jones jnr designed Golf Course is just beautifully presented and is long and challenging. I made a booking to play around lunchtime. After teeing off and playing 4 holes, there was a junior championship tournament on. We got stuck behind the juniors. Then, when we got to the 10th hole, it took us a lot of time to play the hole out, so we decided to leave and head back to the pro shop. It was a great 9 holes.

We explained our predicament to the prshop staff, and then the general manager was notified, and he was fantastic 👏 . He was so good and understanding that without hesitation, he offered us to come back another day to play, at no extra charge in a golf cart too.

Gulf Harbour Golf Course, This is why golf courses are successful with great staff like these who do what is required to assist customers.
