Standard overpriced supermarket with the added thrill of receiving nasty static electrical shocks from the metal shelving units or anything metal that might be touching the shelves. It makes for an interesting shopping experience. Quite a narrow range of goods available (plenty of rock salt, never ever any Pacific flaky sea salt) and quirky, slightly illogical placement of some lines that takes a bit of getting used to. Some curry pastes and sambal oelek among the dry spices! Delicious individually packaged giant dill pickles in the Asian foods section! Tahini amongst the breakfast spreads! Steak and Cheese pie amongst the chilled vegan products! Fresh produce is generally in good condition, and some products are hopelessly mislabeled. Meat/butchery looks pretty good. Nice to see turkey mince appearing. Also a good range of the superior l'authentique charcuterie. Fish sometimes poorly stored and exhibiting signs of age. Weird signature dish of take-home salmon mignon looks frightening - salmon fillet wrapped in graying streaky bacon, topped with oxidised basil (?) pesto. Equally odd are the jars of faux salmon caviar, presumably made in the molecular gastronomy style in a factory far, far away. Deli counter looking fairly grim, decorated ham often a clumsy centerpiece. Reasonable selection of local and imported recreational cheese.

After 3 years of weeky tries the Griff can do the shop on his own. Thank you, to the patient and wonderful staff for helping in his journey. Waikanae, New World is our goto food shop in Kapiti🙏

Bit dated but has everything you need in the way of essential’s. Not sure if they were trying to save electricity but seemed very dim inside. Service was friendly and efficient ✅

I am absolutely shocked by the service and treatment received at New World Waikanae this evening. I purchased a packet of Freya’s 6 pack wraps for dinner to return home and find that all 6 were covered in mould. I then had to drive all the way back to return these and get another pack. When I arrived I was served by an employee who told me “you could get a refund or get a new pack.” Firstly they did not have the same brand of wraps so I had to resort to another brand. Secondly when a customer has purchased produce that is spoiled and had to drive all the way back to the supermarket they should compensate the customer or at least apologise for the inconvenience. If this manager is a representation of your organisation then shame on your...

We had the worst experience we have ever had in a supermarket. We took our groceries to the vacant express checkout where there were 5 staff standing behind it only to be ignored and then a closed sign put in front of us. We left the store without purchasing anything. We were really upset to be treated so badly. Will not go back into this store again. We only 1 star rated it as no stars was not an option. They need lessons in...
