Joe & Joy Eatery — Restaurant in Wellington

This morning's kai comes courtesy of #joeandjoy café in Waikanae.

It's been a while since I was last here, in the middle of COVID-19 NZ, but not much has changed. Still excellent service, scrumptious kai, and great kāwhe.

The kai in the front cabinet looked so ka pai, I just gained kg's looking, haha.

Atmosphere was lovely, relaxing, hum of chatter, kāwhe cups clinking, kāwhe being made, beautiful smell of fresh parāoa and baking.

Really enjoyed returning to enjoy the kai and kāwhe again. Top place, top service, best kai and kāwhe.

We've taken away cabinet food from here before and it was delicious, so we decided to eat in today. My friend got the soup of the day, which came out warmish, which is unfortunate when you're carving hot soup on a cold and dreary winter day. I got the fried chicken waffles. The chicken was delicious, but the waffles were cold (room-temp cold, not fridge cold), which took me by surprise. The waffles were still tasty, but would have been heaps better if they were warm. My partner got waffles too, and his were warmer but still a bit cool compared to other places. You could tell they were not fresh. The coffees were awesome. The hot chocolates were on the watery side than creamy side.

It was jam-packed busy, so maybe we just got the unfortunate side of the stick. There's still many yummy-looking things we want to taste, so we'll still go back to try the other things on the menu and in...

I'm usually in once or twice a week to Joe and Joy, not only because the food is super yummy the staff are also a big drawcard, they are superb. The last few times the lovely Pia has served me. she's always bright and cheery, has a wonderful smile to welcome you, has a great little chat with each customer and remembers you and your orders or what your last chat was about. I always leave Joe &Joy with a smile on my face and it has nothing to do with the calories I'm about to consume and everything to do with Pia and their other wonderful staff. The calories however are well worth it, whether it has been something savoury or sweet to take home, eat in or catering I have never been disappointed with anything I have had from here, the staff are just the icing...
