If you're going to Stewart island, visiting this establishment is simply a must.
I think it's partly because I'm British but I love a good fish and chips, so as you can imagine, in such a seaside location, I was very eager to try.
I ended up going twice which tells you all you need to know, both of which times I got the battered blue cod.
Just. Wow.
Blue cod is quickly becoming one of my favourite types of fish and if you don't agree with me, then I'm sure the battered blue cod will sway you.
Tender, light, creamy and most of all, incredibly fresh, (both times it was practically odourless, showing how fresh it was.)
In addition, the batter of the fish was pretty much perfect, not too thick or thin, not too soft or too crunchy. Letting the blue cod shine front and center while still adding that all important texture.
(I have to give extra props for them for dusting the fish with a little bit of rock salt)
Out of either the chips, (which I had the first time) Or the potato wedges, (which I had the second,)
The wedges were the clear winner.
Crunchier, fluffier with hint of spiced seasoning, they are the way to go in my opinion.

Had to ask them to wrap them again in paper so that they wouldn't fall out carrying them home. Spent nearly $100 feeding 4 adults and 4 small kids.. Looked like it was being run by 2 clueless backpackers From the hostel across the road. Can't believe the other reviews . We're at 33 Dundee Street ( for a week ) if owners want to discuss this.
