We were very disappointed with the service at this branch in Longyearbyen. We purchased a box of wine based on the staff’s recommendation, but unfortunately, it was clearly faulty – it smelled and tasted off. We had already left Svalbard when we opened it, but we contacted the store immediately and offered to send photos or video proof. Despite this, the staff refused to offer any kind of solution or refund, stating that complaints must be handled in-store only. In our experience, most wine retailers are much more accommodating when it comes to defective products. It’s especially frustrating in this case, since we trusted the recommendation and reached out promptly. Read moreThe liquor and wine store in Longyearbyen has a surprisingly large variety of adult beverages, given its remote location. We bought some souvenir bottles of Italian wine with cool Svalbard labels as well as a bag-in-a-box of Riesling with the iconic puffin in the design.
We were able to safely transport these back home after taking them on our expedition ship, several flights, trains and driving them around Iceland. These were some very well travelled wines before we opened them thanks to the “Wine Wings” (on Amazon) and that sturdy Riesling box.
