This cafe is a must-visit when you're in Longyearbyen, especially if you're a dog lover! We knew we had to stop by after hearing about it on social media. We played with all the dogs (Tequila, Yuki, and and Ghandi) before they went out for their "break". The huskies are so friendly, cuddly, gentle, and happy to share the couch with you. This is a great place to enjoy a warm and comforting hot chocolate and get your fill of dog therapy! The owners are really friendly and happy to tell you about their cafe, the dogs, their products, and about life in Svalbard. The cafe is easy to find as it's along the main road in the heart of Longyearbyen. I recommend the hot chocolate with ginger. This place is so cozy that it allows you to mingle with other locals and tourists. There's also a little "shop" within this cafe so you're welcome to browse around while enjoying the dog therapy and beverage. We loved it here so much that we returned the next day as our ship docked in Longyearbyen overnight. Note that you need to remove your shoes before...
Read moreThis place couldn't be any cooler! What a neat thing to do with the retired pups. They were super sweet, social animals even with all the busy movement all around.
Their caramel cheesecake was so good. Prices are exactly what you would expect of Svalbard. Not cheap nor do I expect it to be.
But this place was a lovely, busy little shop. The food and drink were excellent and meticulously crafted with love and great attention to detail. This little paw prints on the coffees were adorable.
This place is super busy as you would expect, so I did try to be quick so as to allow others to experience told as well. They have an impressive assortment of souvenirs to purchase as well.
You are expected to remove your shoes before walking inside which I personally found DELIGHTFUL but my SIL turned around and didn't go in because of that so I suppose it depends on you.
Overall this was the highlight of my trip to Svalbard. I’m happy this exists. These dogs live a good retired life. Thanks for taking such great...
Read moreCafé Huskies Quark Expeditions includes a stop at Spitsbergen, Norway close to the end of its Arctic Saga: Exploring Spitsbergen via the Faroes and Jan Mayen expedition. I was on the expedition that departed Aberdeen, Scotland on April 29, 2024.
Before disembarking Quark's flagship, the Ultramarine, we were briefed on safety matters and learned about stores that might be open during our visit. Regarding safety, we were told that anyone who sought to go beyond the one or two square miles of the town needed to be armed with a rifle that would be able to stop a polar bear.
Café Huskies was within the safe zone, so once our group disembarked from the Ultramarine, I headed to it. Waiting for me there were two beautiful huskies, sprawled out on the floor and clearly in their element. The cafe was busy, clean, and affordable (given its location - i.e., the northernmost community of 1,000 or more persons anywhere on the planet). Its proprietors were friendly, engaging, and appeared to really like their...
