By far the worst beach we have ever visited. The water was dirty (full of bird feathers, plastic, masks, cups, bottle caps). Could be that it is this dirty due to an event not that far from thw beach. But even that does not explain all the bird feathers. We have visited many beaches around the world, many different types of beaches. From natural beaches to man made. White sand to black rocks. Praia da Ribeira Brava on a cloudy day is empty. On a sunny day there are some locals. Only semi-okay thing is that it has bathrooms and showers use for 3 euros, a shallow pool (very bad condition). The parkinglot and it’s price is fine. Nice, calm spot Lovely black sand beach with the bonus of a (cold but refreshing) swimming pool. The sea is easy to enter –no stones or shells– and thanks to its sheltered location there are no big waves. Perfect for our kids who had a great time. And we enjoyed it too. They've created a wooden walkway, and there are a small number of wooden platforms which are good for 2-3 people, a number of which have parasols, making sunbathing a lot easier if you can get one.
