BoConcept Qatar — Local services in Al-Daayen

This review is a warning for anyone considering custom work at this BoConcept store in Doha. As a Westerner living here for 10 years, I've learned to recognize dishonest business practices, and this store exemplifies them.

The salespeople and decorators here are scam artists. While I don’t believe they represent the BoConcept brand as a whole—European stores are far better—the staff here take advantage of customers, especially with custom alterations.

I had custom curtains done by an interior designer from the store. I didn’t even realize she was a "designer" until after the fact, when I was charged extra for her “expertise.” It started simply enough—she visited with a team to measure and show fabric samples. I was asked to pay a deposit upfront without knowing the total cost. Although I felt uneasy, her pushiness convinced me, and I trusted I was paying for premium work.

After I paid, her attitude shifted. My budget suddenly wasn’t enough for the BoConcept curtain rails advertised, and I was forced into choosing a cheap pole with brackets she claimed were “premium.” She assured me everything was custom, effortless, and high quality. Despite repeated attempts, she avoided providing a final price, instead emphasizing how “expensive” and “high quality” the work was.

When the installation finally happened, I knew I’d been scammed. The fabric (which I chose) was fine, but everything else was cheap. The brackets were flimsy, plastic components abounded, and the tailoring was poor. I convinced myself she knew better, but the poor quality became undeniable when the plastic curtain rings began cracking after light use. On closer inspection, they were spray-painted, toy-like plastic.

Years later, needing repairs, I contacted the store. A salesman audibly sighed when I told him the story, then revealed the truth: none of my curtains or rods were from BoConcept. I’d paid BoConcept prices for items sourced from local tailors and installers. The designer had essentially marked up everything while outsourcing the work.

I escalated to a manager, only to be told that yes, I was scammed, and no, they wouldn’t fix it because too much time had passed. The essential scam here is this:

They push you to pay a non-refundable deposit upfront. When you complain about costs, they claim the design work has already started, forcing you to continue. Once installed, you realize the poor quality, only to discover years later that none of it was from BoConcept.

Thankfully, I’ve since had the work redone by a local tailor at a fraction of the price, and the results are excellent. But this review is to warn others in Doha: avoid this store. You can find what you need locally with better quality, service, and pricing.

Boconcept Doha Festival City Mall. Bought in January 2025 few pieces of home furniture, and again today. The service in January provided by sales representative Mr. Saif was very professional and excellent customer service. He is well aware in the description of the furniture pieces in a very thorough details. He was amazing and super!
