I had my first visit to the Hussar Grill Walmer. The establishment is far above a guy like me, I was just so impressed, like so impressed. The bread, olives and flaked fries decorating the table were the real thing, especially the olives, they were very "more please". I was a bit out of my usual pub lunch element and not entirely at ease with the proper decorum, I am after all but a lumberjack out of his element. I will therefore not try and review a place like this and show my ignorance. I had a fried Camembert and the Garlic Snails as two starters. I had Madagascan Pepper Fillet as a main. I had Creme Brulee desert. The food was far above my ability to to critique, really a experience and privilege, I have never really understood a Greek Salads appeal till last nights meal, a real Greek Salad is really nice. The desert was nice, lovely, but not the best I have ever had. I have had Creme Brulee that was nicer in my opinion, but I guess that would be a personal taste and not a reflection of the great desert I had. The establishment is a great asset to Walmer and Port Elizabeth. I will definitely make this my "impress a friend" place. Food - Just absolutely incredible. Staff - Almost better than the food, really "wow!" Portions - Bit more civilized than the likes of I. Choices - Will take a long time to get bored. Price - Ya well, you get what you pay for, thats for certain. I could not do the Hussar every day, I also could not fault the charge however. Regards Treeman

A perfect restaurant for fine dining. The staff is friendly, nice atmosphere and excellent service. If you’re a steak lover this restaurant is for you, they have the best steak in town.

Well it is a two edged sword. I had a carpet bagger steak, which was a lovely cut of fillet stuffed with smoked oysters. No idea who thought up that combination but it didn't really work for me. Although the steak was cooked perfectly. For starters I had a wheel of deep fried camembert with cranberry sauce. Lovely. My partner ordered a sirloin on the bone. He asked for it not have basting sauce, as he doesn't like basting sauce. His meal was served - with basting sauce. Plus the steak and the accompanying Cafe du Paris butter were cold. It was sent back to be warmed up. He did not enjoy his steak at all, and B is not a fussy eater. He had calamari and chorizo as a starter, which he enjoyed a lot. At midnight I think the steak took revenge on him, which is rather unfortunate. He bought his left over steak home for our hound. Our waitrons were amazing. Extremely knowledgeable. It is not very often that you come across such well trained waitrons. Kudos to them. We have decided when we return to Hussar in the future, we will only be ordering fillet steaks, sans basting sauce for one, and a side sauce.

Decided to give this place a go last night. Made a reservation on Sunday for the following Friday for two. We had requested a set menu and they had given us a reservation for 19:00. I am unfortunately disappointed with the level of service received. When we sat at our reserved table, which was next to the kitchen and loud extractors, the waitress asked us if we had come there before. We replied that it was our first time and she made a remark saying that their menu could be a bit daunting as they are quite expensive even though we had already requested a set menu. That statement was uncalled for and felt as if we were judged financially at face value. We were then rushed to make a decision on our choices for the meal courses. The cocktails we ordered felt watered down and took quite a while to be prepared as apparently they have have never made it before saying it was new on their menu. The courses took time to be prepared to the point that we could not be served dessert and the bill was brought to the table shortly after receiving our mains at 20:10. Were were also then told that the bill needed to be paid by 20:30 and that the desserts which were chosen from the set menu could not be made for take-away. They then swiftly prepared a packed chocolate brownie and left it on the table for take-away. We were then told by the waitress that she apologises for rushing us but that we should have come earlier. We then told her that we would have come earlier if we were told that 19:00 was an issue with timing during the booking of our reservation for a set menu. I am sorry to say that since this was quite an unpleasant evening, we will not be returning even though the food was...

Having visited this restaurant on numerous occasions, my recent visit will most probably be the last for a long time unfortunately. We are both not cheeky enough to ask for a specific waiter/waitress as we expect the same good service from all. During our visits we have noticed that only 1 waitress had the skills to deal with customers by way of getting the order correct and without overpowering follow up checks to ensure all is good. On this occasion and as of previous visits I ordered a steak well done as I don’t prefer running blood but a little pink and my partner chose the very reputable pork belly, this time the larger weight in order that we share the meats, she does not do blood ! We had to constantly remind the waitress on this occasion of the complimentary starter and the side dishes plus she never returned to ask if all was ok. Luckily I’m not the fussiest of diners but my steak came of medium rare state (if that) and therefore I could not offer my partner any because of her totally unwanted blood ! When I asked the waitress to clarify how I asked for my steak to be cooked, on checking her notes she said I originally asked for medium well done but stated I changed my mind to medium ! We were totally gobsmacked 😶 Sorry Hussars but standards have fallen and there are far too many other establishments to choose from with A1 service. I tried the link on reply to the review but it doesn’t work. A member of staff has recently got back to me and has made all the best efforts to resolve my negative review, I informed him that I am not a regular complainer and was happy with...
