Unfortunately had really bad service here until we requested a new waiter. Akona's service was great, he saved the day. The beer I requested was not available so I had to settle for a SAB substitute. The wheelchair loo at the Boardwalk Centre was not available which is sad as it is a pretty new addition to Port Eliza's beachfront. The wheelchair parking is used by all and sundry (not uncommon in PE which is unfortunate - this is supposed to be the friendly city?) the security at the Boardwalk complex seem to be incompetent and poorly trained as they can not even police the wheelchair parking. A plus point is that they were dog friendly and provided water for my dog.

Doppio Zero is an absolutely amazing and vibrant restaurant. The food is spectacular as always (I've been here 4 times in the past 2 months). And the atmosphere is definitely amazing even the service is great, just not when it's a very busy afternoon/evening. Especially if you are a solo diner, the service on a busy evening is not the best. The wait is tend to go for the bigger tables, then you and also it takes a while for your food to arrive to you compared to the bigger tables where they order after you but get their food before you. This happened to me twice already since I am a solo diner.

I had a hankering for some middle eastern flavours for breakfast and wowzer did the Turkish eggs deliver it. Loved it! The hints of cumin, paprika, chilli with fresh coriander and cucumber on a creamy bed of labneh (cream cheese) paired with perfectly poached eggs and for a little crunch the panko crusted aubergine. The ambiance was stylish and inviting on a chilly winter morning. Will be back for the Shakshuka eggs next

On the evening of the 14 Jul, myself and my partner, were exposed to a risk for cross-contamination or any other foodborne illness.

This happened when we were served cold meat that was wrongfully prepared, (A well done stake instead of medium- well WITH NO BASTING !)..

Upon indicating that the meat was difficult to swallow as it was extremely dry (over cooked), the Chef decided to add a basting, albeit our clear indication that we do not eat basted meat ...

When we rejected it, the Chef washed it and sent it back to us...I'll leave its state to your imagination .

The waitress said the Chef, refused to start the order afresh and insisted on cleaning up the basting.

When we complained, they all gathered in the kitchen to discuss it, Asanda (a plus sized woman who serves salads, was soo entertained and she was laughing her lungs out peaking through the door looking at us, some staff members in the kitchen were taking turns to check us out, as if we were fools....they entertained themselves to their satisfaction.

When they were satisfied, the Chef we had called for an explanation came, with a face filled with laughter, soo entertained..When we asked him to explain why he did what he did, he denied and said he was not responsible for it...he went out to call another one...as he approached the kitchen, his colleagues were standing waiting for an update of the joke had become..

The other Chef came after 10 minutes, as they firstly satisfied themselves with discussing and laughing at the matter...

I wish to register that, I will never ever set foot in your restaurant again, and I'll make sure that I make this dehumanisation I experienced, known yo everyone I can Reach..

I loved your restaurant, but today, I saw the other side of your...

When I lived in Johannesburg, I always went to Doppio Zero in Greenside and Rosebank. Service and Food was always of the highest standard. So, I had high expectations when a Doppio Zero opened at the Boardwalk Complex in Port Elizabeth. The minute that I arrived at Doppio Zero PE, my expectations deflated. There is a sign, as you come in, it says: 'Please wait to be seated' We waited and waited, at least 5 minutes. No one was at the entrance to meet us. Eventually a gentleman came to us and greeted us, I guess he was the Barista, and greeted us. He did ask where we would like to sit. We said that we'd like to sit outside. He said to us: "Go outside and choose a table" So, we went outside and had to choose a table that was actually clean. We found one clean table, where we sat at. Ten minutes later, not one server came to us. Servers were about, attending to other tables. There did not seem to be a Floor Manager on duty, surely a Floor Manager would be on Duty? The servers did not even seem to notice us. I did see a woman seated at a table with a bunch of paperwork on the table in front of her, I guessed that she was also a patron. She may have been the Manager, but I have no idea. We got up and left the restaurant. No one acknowledged our departure, or engaged with us. The family of four seated next to us, also got up and left, without being acknowledged either. This is the busiest season of the year, one would think that a Restaurant of this caliber would be at the top of their game,...

Good day Doppio:

I have to express my dismay at service experienced at Doppio Zero at the Boardwalk in Port Elizabeth.

Firstly we waited for 30 min for our drinks. 3 simple drinks. I had to ask the waitress to take our food order in this time. Her name is Mathuba Mbovane. She’s fairly useless. In the mean time I had to get the female manager, Lisha Jeacocks to intervene and check where the food was. I had to do this 3 times. Being promised food is coming every time and subsequently food came after an hour we were there.

I ordered a naked hippie burger that came without a bun after all of the waiting time. Nowhere on the menu does it specify this burger comes without a bun and it’s not obvious for International travellers like us. This should be explicitly specified on the menu.

My wife ordered prawns and linefish. Terrible quality. Fish looked like it was dried fish of colour not even white.

My mother dropped her knife and asked the waitress for another knife. She forgot about the request. She had to be reminded.

The manager Sinouyyo Tswane had no control of this and the situation escalated to an argument between myself and Lisha, who should never be a manager of anything in her life. She has no skills.

So this is extremely bad service as well as terrible quality food. We waited an hour for food with a multitude of poor excuses. A proper day spoiler experience.

We will never return to any Doppio Zero. And I hope these three characters get fired for their...
