Howick Falls — Local services in uMgeni Local Municipality

This was our first stop towards our 3 day trip and i had a great time. I had an excellent first impression and i loved every aspect about the falls but i think something needs to be done about those people who are residing at shiyabazali a place nearby the falls. Lovely to see the water flowing freely... And the addition of lovers padlocks to the viewing rail.

Sadly, over the lockdown of 2020, the area has not been well maintained. And the viewing site and surrounding area is looking decidedly grubby and uncared for.

Fellow viewers from out of town expressed some concern about safety, with the road currently barricaded and visitors having to park at the Museum and walk down through what remains of the market. Especially as none of the shops at the Falls are currently trading. And, everything is...

A gorgeous view worth seeing. The viewing deck is secured with rails and there are stalls / curio stores to support at the top.

Apparently there are can apply tours nearby. Didn’t check it out this time.

I didn’t feel completely safe to be honest. It was a dodgy vibe.

Yes - locals were washing their clothes in the water before the drop....

Nothing much else to do around the fall itself. Wish there was a scenic hike or something.

Be sure to drive up to the Mandela Capture site a few km away and maybe even grab some Belgian...
