여의도 — Local services in Seoul

I like the area around Yoido station. There is something about it that makes it much more attractive to me than Itaewon. First, there are almost no scruffy foreigners (other than me). Second, the Koreans I see there are mostly productive, busy young office workers. There are very few of the preening princesses or narcissistic young mama's boys - men with bangs and big, round "cute" glasses - that I see in places like Kangnam and Hongdae. The people you see around Yoido station on a weekday are all attractive, but basically dedicated to their work, so looking good is of much less importance. These are the energetic, intelligent young Asians who are making this part of the world the best part, while the multi-cultural, politically correct West sinks rapidly into third-world status....Another thing I like about this area around Yoido station is that since it is a business district, on weekends it is very quiet. One can stroll around among the modern buildings, along the nice, wide, tree-lined sidewalks, in peace and refreshing solitude. There are many restaurants and coffee shops where the visitor can relax and nearby this station there is a nice shopping mall with many interesting stores. Not far away is the river, with its riverside park...Anyway, the station is unremarkable - very easy to navigate, with a good convenience store, a nice bathroom and none of the extremely long walks between subway lines that some of Seoul's other stations have.
