This used to be my favorite in Seoul, and I stuck with it even though the furniture, walls and floors were so banged up even 5 years ago that the place needed a renovation.||||My last stay has convinced me it is time to give up on this place.||||Where the issues in the past used to be mostly cosmetic, now they are fundamental. ||||First, our rooms—see attached photos. Dirty with defective windows (bathroom and bedroom, with an obvious impact on the room temperature). Clearly no one had cleaned that shower properly in a long time, and the floor manager did not check properly. Clearly also no one had checked the condition of the windows in a long time, or (my suspicion) had decided not to do anything about it.||||Remarkable the response of the staff when shown the photos of the ice: "It was especially cold last night"—as if temperatures below -10 degrees Centigrade were not common in Seoul every winter.||||We changed rooms, the new one was better and got a thorough cleaning before we moved in, but cleaning continued to be hit and miss, and the windows in that room were leaky as well. The bedroom in particular, with windows on two sides, had a persistent icy draft. We made it bearable by putting lots of pillows and cushions against the windows and using tissues, towels and packing tape to seal some of the gaps. (I still cannot believe that this was needed, in Korea, in 2021, in a building that is maybe 15 years old...)||||Usually if something is this badly wrong, you would expect a proactive effort to compensate the guest. Not so in this case. We finally managed to get some compensation, but why the guest should have to push for this when the hotel clearly did not live up to its end of the bargain—a clean room that offers protection from the elements, at least—is a mystery to me.||||During this entire process, no senior management was ever seen. It seems like the MD never interacts with the guests—which perhaps explains the state of disrepair. Nor does his direct report. Everything was left to junior managers without decision power. ||||And just as I thought we had somehow reached a livable resolution, the final chapter: The hotel had pre-charged my credit card for the entire stay at the beginning—for 3 weeks. No problem, one would think, except that the final charge was lower because of the compensation offered. So what did they do? Charge back the original amount and the re-charge for the new total. Predictable result: I lost about 5% of the total sum in credit card transaction fees, or about 1 night's worth. When I pointed this out during check-out, I was told this was the only way they could do it.||||So in sum: room condition, cleanliness, complaint management, and accounting were all deficient. So on everything that really counts as basic, performance was abysmal. In retrospect, we should...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed in a 1 Bedroom Executive Apartment at the Yeouido Marriott Executive Apartments at the beginning of November. Our room was on the 9th floor and offered a wonderful view of Yeouido Park. It was very quiet, with no street noise. The room matched the pictures we saw online, and the kitchen was equipped with all the necessary appliances and fully stocked kitchenware. Although the building is older, our room had been completely updated, was clean, and showed no signs of wear and tear. All the features worked without any issues. The room has underfloor heating, but the weather wasn't cold enough for us to use it. There is a separate air conditioning unit, and we were able to adjust the temperature as desired; the coldest setting we used was 20°C. A huge benefit of staying in an apartment was having a washing machine and dryer inside the unit, allowing us to do laundry during the second half of our trip.||While the hotel doesn’t offer as many amenities as some other hotels, there is a gym and spa available. We utilized the gym during our stay, which was spacious and had plenty of exercise machines, along with an open area for stretching or yoga. This gym had the largest variety of equipment compared to other hotels we stayed at, which was a nice bonus.||The Marriott staff was the friendliest we encountered throughout our trip to Seoul! Special shout-outs to Jessica and Kim Hae Ri for making our stay so wonderful! They assisted us with storing our luggage a few days before our check-in date while we traveled to Jeju Island, and they even offered a late checkout. Additionally, they provided us with local recommendations, which we greatly appreciated. It was clear that the staff genuinely cared about our stay and made us feel at home. Even though we tried our best to speak Korean when possible, every staff member we interacted with understood English.||The location is a bit farther from some of the main tourist attractions in Seoul. Our commute to certain places took anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes using public transit. However, there is a bus stop directly outside the hotel, and the closest subway station is about a 10-minute walk away. A 7-Eleven convenience store is located on the basement level of the hotel, which was handy for quick snacks or drinks. Also, Yeouido Park, which is across the street, is beautiful for strolling, especially to enjoy the fall foliage in Seoul.||Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to my family and friends, and I would certainly stay here again on my next...
Read moreHORRIBLE! HORRIBLE!! Stayed two nights. On second night, I woke up middle of the night for restroom. Room was COMPLETELY dark. I suddenly remembered that I left TV and light on when I went to bed. Room was so dark and so quiet (I could not even hear or feel electrical noise in the air) like inside of coffin. It was about 1:50AM. I tried to turn light switch and TV but it didn’t work. I was so scared. SO SCARED! I jumped out of bed, grab the room key and ran out to the elevator. Hallway was also dark (only emergency light dimmed) and elevator didn’t work. My room was in 4th floor. I tried to use stair to go down, but there was no light and so cold. I realized that I didn’t even wear shoes. My cellphone was out (since it couldn’t be charged at all). I really don’t know what I should do. When I went back to my room, card key didn’t work. Door didn’t have room number indication light. 40 y.o professional woman in panic was completely stuck at the hallway with bare feet and improper outfit in the dark. I wanted to cry and scream for help. Suddenly I remembered the telephone on each floor. I called to the lobby and front desk person answered. He said that there was power outage due to electric inspection from 1:30 to 4:30 AM that night and THEY GAVE WRITTEN NOTICE TO EVERY ROOM WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED!!!!!!!! Front desk person said that he will come up. I don’t know how long I waited him but he didn’t show up. Instead hallway light came back. I could enter my room that didn’t have power thru that night. I am also business owner. I barely give any bad review to other businesses. I don't have time to do that. However, this time I am spending time to write detail review. It was horrible experience I ever had. When I checked in on Oct 25, I never heard any verbal notice for power outage. Imagine the situation. I was so miserable and so vulnerable in the dark. You may have a heart attack. Do not stay this hotel. They will not help you...
