MUTAN Yeouido Store(restaurants) — Restaurant in Seoul

Based on their rating, I picked this place for dinner. Huge mistake. When I arrived, despite being mostly empty I was given a terrible table right by the front door. As a guest in the country, I'm used to that type of thing so it really didn't bother me.

Menu was all electronic with poor translation. I ordered spicy pork and what I thought was a glass of wine. In reality, what I ordered was the corkage fee for a bottle. They were kind and let me know I could but a bottle from their bottle shop and save that fee. Since the only other option was beer, I bought a bottle.

This is where things got weird. That immediately asked if I would move to a different table - a 4 top with a reserved sign that took off and gave to me. Server opened the wine and poured a taste, as is typical, but when I said it was fine he walked away and I never interacted with him until I waved him down (on my third attempt) to pay the check.

I got the spicy pork, which was fine but nothing special. I had a bowl for rice and a serving piece for that, but rice never came. Server never came by to refill wine.

They also have an annoying auto order system that makes a loud noise whenever an order comes in, which also detracted from the meal.

Too many great places in Seoul to waste time on mediocre food and...

We had the Truffle Jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) topped generously with shaved truffle and the Chili Pepper Yuringi (crispy chicken with green and red chili peppers). Both dishes were truly impressive in flavor and presentation.

The truffle Jajangmyeon had a deep, savory sauce that paired wonderfully with the rich aroma of the truffle — luxurious and indulgent. The Yuringi was crisp and juicy, topped with a mountain of fresh spicy chilies that added a satisfying heat without overpowering the dish.

The portion sizes were quite large — perfect for sharing. I’d definitely recommend coming with at least three people to fully enjoy everything without feeling overwhelmed. Prices are on the higher side, but considering the generous use of ingredients like truffle, it’s understandable.

Mutan is hands down one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve been to! Every dish was a perfect balance of flavor, texture, and presentation. The truffle 짜장면 was a standout—rich, aromatic, and elevated with just the right amount of truffle to enhance the classic flavors. The 유린기 was crispy yet tender, with a refreshing sauce that kept every bite interesting.

The 동파육 melted in my mouth, packed with deep, savory notes, while the 탕수육 had an amazing crunch and a perfectly balanced sweet-and-sour sauce. I also loved the 멘보샤—crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful inside.
