Our experience with Ignacio was SO wonderful that I don't even know where to begin this review. The experience was beyond excellent, it was superb. My husband and I were visiting Madrid in August 2021 and were wanting to see Segovia and also do a wine tour of the Ribera del Duero region. Ignacio's tour was the perfect combination for us. If you are looking for a truly wonderful, fun, and unique experience look no further than booking a tour with Ignacio. We cannot recommend him and his company enough. If I could give him more than 5 stars I sincerely would. Please have no hesitations booking a tour with WineBus, you will NOT be disappointed. It will be the highlight of your trip to Spain, I promise you that.
First and foremost, the real GEM of this tour was being able to spend time with Ignacio. We were quite lucky as we were the only two in the tour that day. I have done many tours in many countries, but I will forever remember Ignacio. His kindness and enthusiasm is contagious. He exudes a warmth that makes you feel like you have known him for many years. I find that people like this are quite rare and we were so very lucky to have him as our guide. His passion for Spain, history, wine, his desire to be sure that his clients have a great time, and his genuine interest in you as a person was so evident during our tour. He loves what he does and it shows. My husband and I truly felt that we made a new friend that day and we were sad that our tour ended because it meant our time with Ignacio had also come to an end. There is no doubt that we will certainly take another tour with Ignacio the next time we are in Madrid.
The tour itself was fantastic! We started our day meeting Ignacio at our meeting point and then we headed over to the Ribera del Duero region. Ignacio turned a 1.5 hour car ride into an interesting and thought provoking conversation, which we so very much enjoyed. He described the history of Spain and also gave us some great information about wine in the region. He then took us to Castle Penaranda where he provided us with some history of the region and we had our first Rioja wine. After this we headed over to the winery, El Lagar de Isilla, where we had our wine tasting and learned about wine making in the Ribera del Duero region. The wine flight was great and we were provided with some cheese, cured meats, and breads as well. Fantastic conversation during our wine tasting which added all the more to the experience. After our tasting we had a nice lunch at the winery's restaurant. Food was fantastic. We had a lamb dish which was honestly some of the best lamb I have had. Ignacio was also very kind as I have a severe nut allergy and he was so careful to check with the servers about any allergens -something I always truly appreciate. After our time at the winery we made our way over to Segovia for a visit of the main sights. Ignacio took us to the town's main street, the roman aqueduct, the cathedral, and the Segovia castle. We felt that we had just enough time to see the main sights and it was a great introduction to Segovia.
All in all and in a nutshell: Amazing company - check High quality conversation - check Wonderful tour - check Great experience - check Great value - check

Read moreWe had an absolutely incredible and packed day with Ignacio on a recent Ribera Del Duero wine tour. Ignacio acted as the perfect guide. Although he is not a sommelier, he possesses deep knowledge of the region’s wines and of the winemaking process. Most importantly, he is very kind and truly cares for the well being and comfort of his guests. We felt like we were being taken care of by a dear family member rather than a tour guide. Furthermore, his English skills are excellent and he will skillfully translate as needed.
Our day started with a scenic drive to the Ribera del Duero region of Madrid. Ignacio gave us a brief history of Spain and winemaking in the area. As our group was on time, we were able to visit a local museum to learn about the process and add in a quick extra glass of wine at an additional winery. Following this, we did a longer tour and tasting at Cair winery which was insightful. Lunch was held at a local Castilian restaurant, and Ignacio helped us order and share excellent dishes (try the morcilla and roast lamb!). That restaurant also happened to be one of our favorite and most authentic dining experiences in Spain, and included a brief visit to one of the last remaining wine caves in town. Our day ended with another great tasting and tour at El Lagar de Isilla. We arrived back in Madrid at 8:30 with bellies full of great wine and food and with fond memories.
A couple things should be noted about this tour. Try as best you can to arrive promptly in the morning, as Ignacio will try to squeeze in some extra activities. Though the end time of the tour is listed at 7:30pm, allow for some flexibility (give or take an hour) as this is a relaxed day and additional excursions are well worth your time. Lunch is NOT included in the price and, despite being explicitly listed on the tour description, this information surprised some members of our tour group. That being said, as mentioned the lunch is great and cost approximately 30 euros per person for high quality meat tapas. Wear comfortable shoes as there is some walking involved and the steps to the wine cave you will visit may be slippery. Finally, despite the name the Wine Bus was more of a Wine Van to our pleasant surprise. Our group was small (5) and the ride was very comfortable, and this plus Ignacio’s attentiveness made the tour feel rather private.
Overall, our day with Ignacio was one of the highlights of our Spanish vacation and we wouldn’t hesitate to book...
Read moreOur day trip with Ignacio to Ribera wine country and Segovia was amazing!!! My wife, Mary, and I, were fortunate enough to be the only folks who had booked that day with Ignacio so he was our private tour guide. On the drive to go wine tasting in Ribera Del Duero, we loved hearing Ignacio share a boatload of history about Spain. The wine tasting we did in Ribera, was stellar! We have done a ton of wine tours and tastings in the US but this tour was the best by far. The winery Ignacio took us to was stellar from the tasting of the wines (they were all delicious) to seeing and tasting the actual grapes being used for the wine. Ignacio introduced us to the owner, his daughter and his son. Everyone was so nice, warm and welcoming. What made it even more special was that we had our own private tasting with Ignacio that included a wonderful charcuterie board. We left the winery buying three different red wines that we can’t wait to re-enjoy for a special occasion.
After leaving the vineyard, Ignacio drove us to a restaurant about 45mins from the vineyard where he had recommended the lamb chop, which I ordered, and it was juicy and tasty as all get out. The restaurant also served us a complimentary after dinner drink (similar to Limoncello in the states) that was tasty and it helped make having a lil’ siesta much easier on the way to Segovia after lunch.
Segovia is a beautiful little town and Ignacio took us to the Alcazar de Segovia and the Cathedral. Both sites were amazing to tour and Ignacio helped us get set up for both tours. He guided us through the Cathedral and he gave a bunch of informational background about the many lil’ chapel areas in the Cathedral. After the two tours in Segovia, we walked through the Plaza Mayor and to visit the Aqueduct. Hearing about and seeing the aqueduct was so neat, in that there is no mortar holding the stones of the aqueduct together. After seeing the aqueduct, Ignacio took us to an abandoned old church that had a beautiful view of the Alcazar, where we drank a bottle of wine that the vineyard had gifted him earlier in the day. Ignacio is an amazing host/tour guide in Spain. He felt like family to us by the...
