Must see! Easy to get to with the train from Atocha (a nice walk up a boulevard with museums) or Recoletos (just a few meters up from the roundabout with the famous fountain). This is where Real Madrid celebrates their victories! Walk up the street that the statue faces to see the Metropolis building right ahead, and some beautiful statues on top of many of the iconic buildings on the left. You'll pass Banco de España and Circulo de Bellas Artes (it has concerts, theater and a rooftop). At Metropolis, going right is Gran Via with lots of stores and restaurants; going left you can find the Four Seasons and the Canalejas square with incredible buildings and the new shopping center with Dior, Chanel and some restaurants in the basemenr floor. Behind the fountain of Cibeles is the Palacio de Telecomunicaciones, you can visit some of it, and there are a couple of options for a drink or a meal with views. Behind this palace is the main park in Madrid and another iconic roundabout: la puerta de Alcala. Lots of restaurants and events around there as well.

The Square of Cybele is located at the northern end of the Paseo del Prado and the eastern end of the Calle de Alcalá and there are the statue of Cybele, the goddess of fertility, and on the southwest side of the square are the Buenavista Palace (the General Headquarters of of the Army), the Linares Palace (which houses the Casa de América cultural institution), the Cibeles Palace (formerly the main post office, now housing Madrid City Hall and the CentroCentro cultural center), and the Bank of Spain. During awards trophies in Real Madrid, the team's players and fans celebrate their victories by hanging their favorite team's flag on the statue of Kyveli. The famous Fuente de Cibeles fountain is located on a circular square and is one of the most emblematic monuments of Madrid. Created in 1782 by Francisco Gutiérrez and Roberto Michel, it depicts the Roman goddess of fertility, atop a chariot pulled by two lions. Behind the fountain is the Palacio de Cibeles cultural center, which is the seat of the Madrid City Council.

Along with Plaza Mayor and Puerta de Sol, Cibeles is another (if not the most) beautiful central Madrid square. Main feature is the Cibeles fountain of the same name Goddess riding a lions carriage in the middle of a roundabout, and the imposing Cibeles edifice where's the City Hall and main post office. On the other corner is the beautiful Banco de Espana bldg as well the magnificent Metropolis edifice at the beginning of Gran Via. Cibeles is also the gathering place for big celebrations, such was the European football champion celebration we were lucky to attend on 14 July, right after the spectacular Metallica concert on Athletico Estadio Metropolitano - what a night
