過去是普門中學的用地，星雲大師將學校遷往更好的地點之後，這裡就改建成福慧家園以及三好樓。一興建完成迎接的是88風災莫拉克災民，來自那瑪夏村，一個月後村民離開會到部落，福慧家園回到弘法工作；隨著法務興盛，使用量越來越大，師父們、義工們共同把這裡照顧得真好⋯⋯讓我們法身慧命有安頓的地方。

為淨化社會人心，提供大眾身心安頓的家園，佛光山開山宗長星雲大師特於二○○八年九月於佛光山總本山創立福慧家園，擬以融和傳統共 修內容，並以說、唱、讀、演多元方式攝心修持，以落實佛光山四大宗旨之一「以共修淨化人心」為目標。 佛光山經過半個世紀的努力，推動共修的佛教，希望以共修來淨化人心，這是當初開山的四大宗旨之一。現在又再更上一層樓，成立「福慧家園」，成為全世界分別院推廣共修的總站。

所謂「福慧家園」，顧名思義，就是希望成為全球佛光人「福慧雙修」、長養「福德智慧」的法身慧命之家。平時大家學佛路上，對於修福，舉凡布施喜 捨、救災恤貧、環保護生、義工行佛，多有參與。但是修福之外，還要修慧，所謂「修福不修慧，大象披瓔珞；修慧不修福，羅漢應供薄。」「福慧雙修」 是佛教徒在生活中必修的功課，也是學佛必達的目標；唯有「福慧雙修」，才能圓滿佛道。

平時我們說「皈依佛，兩足尊」，佛陀被尊為「兩足尊」，就是「福慧圓滿」的象徵。現在福慧家園的門開了，希望今後大家都能按時回到這個提供我們...
