Daan Park — Local services in Taipei

My wife and I went to Taiwan from the United States to visit our relatives on September 7, 2023.

Something happened at MRT Da'an Forest Park Station that moved me so much that I couldn't help but write it down. At about 9 o'clock in the evening on September 11, my wife and I were on the MRT from Taipei Station to Xiangshan. My wife felt very uncomfortable with her heart and was experiencing atrial fibrillation. After we got off the train at Daan Forest Park Station, my wife was lying on a platform chair and very weak to say she needed to drink water. I was panicked and at a loss, so I hurried upstairs and saw a uniformed MRT service employee - Chen Baiyan陳柏諺. I told him about my wife's situation. Mr. Chen immediately used the intercom to contact his colleague - Huang Lizhen 黃麗臻, and pushed a wheelchair rushed downstairs with water and asked my wife with great concern whether something was wrong and whether they needed to call an ambulance...and so on. Fortunately, after my wife drank the water and took medicines, she felt much better later, so they transported her to the MRT gate in a wheelchair, and I breathed a sigh of relief.

The most beautiful scenery in Taiwan is its people, and I witnessed their dignity again when I went to the MRT station in person. Taiwan’s human touch and the efficiency of the MRT Emergency SOP are really amazing.

I really can’t imagine what it would be like if this happened in a New York subway station!

MRT Daan Park Station is an outstanding station among Taipei MRT system. Huge glass canopy was applied toward the Daan Park and plenty of sunlight being induced into the concourse level by means of a semicircular sunken plaza. Manmade waterfall and water dancing design attracted passengers and tourists attention. All the transit and busy atmosphere is gone at that...
