I am writing to formally raise a concern regarding an incident that took place on the 22nd of May 2025, at approximately 16:10.

While standing in front of The View at The Palm, Palm Jumeirah, we approached a driver who had just dropped off other passengers. We asked if he could take us to Stella Di Mare Hotel, and he immediately agreed. Unfortunately, we did not book this ride through the Uber app, as it was an on-the-spot arrangement.

Once we began the journey, I noticed that the driver did not activate the taximeter. I politely requested him to do so, but he replied by saying, "This is a luxury car," implying that standard fare practices did not apply.

I checked the Uber app during the ride and saw that the expected fare for this route was approximately AED 35–40. However, upon reaching our destination at 16:39, the driver informed us that the charge was AED 95.55. I expressed my concern about the high fare, noting that we had paid a similar amount for a ride from the airport, which is a much longer distance and according to the uber app the rate is between 35-40AED.

Only after I insisted did the driver provide a receipt, which I can attached with a photo of the car for your reference.

I believe this was a case of overcharging and possibly misuse of Uber’s name or services. I kindly request that this matter be investigated and appropriate action taken.

In addition, I strongly believe that this company/ driver doesn't even belong to uber but he was providing this service illegal!!!! I will report this issue to the RTA as I have been informed by the receptionist at the hotel. Hopefully they will...

⚠️ Warning – Scam Taxi / Car Lift

It’s a scam! They’ll say it’s the same as a normal taxi and claim the meter is 5 AED, but when you reach your destination, they triple the price. Don’t trust anyone offering a “car lift” — it’s not safe. Usually the fare will just be around 100-120AED.

Always book through Careem, Uber, or an official RTA taxi instead. It’s much safer and you’ll know the fare upfront.
