This mall again is very much connected to me & my family in our over three decades stay in Dubai. As a matter of fact around 28 years we stayed in Deira side and the initial three to four years we stayed in Bur Dubai.

When we started staying near Al Ghurair Centre in 2000 the Reef Mall was not built. If I remember correctly it was inaugurated sometime in end 2004. The site of this mall was a vacant place I used to take my daughters to this site for them to practice cycling. Those cycles were brought from the store “Toys R Us” which was adjacent to this mall. Now Toys R Us gone from there which is replaced by Ansar Gallary.

After the Reef Mall was inaugurated we had two nearby malls (Al Ghurair Centre & Reef Mall) to spend our evenings and weekends and holidays.

It used to be my daughters (8 years and 12 years aged at that time) choice where they want to go for shopping and eating - Al Ghurair or Reef. Reef being comparatively smaller but having a bigger area as Kid play station, my daughters prefer to go to Reef Mall among the two.

Also there was Al Maya Lal supermarket on the ground floor of Reef Mall which is opened round the clock. So anything that you need is available at a walkable distance for us.

The food court on the top floor at Reef Mall had variety of choices for all pocket size and taste. Brands like KFC, McDonald, Popeyes, Wendy’s, some Arabian and Indian food were available. There were varieties of ice creams (Baskin-Robbins) and cakes available which made our daughters happy. Sometime we celebrated their birthdays at these food joints calling their school friends and our relatives.

In short, in those days Reef Mall was an integral part of our life. Also a lot of changes happened in the shops at Reef Mall over a period of time but till date we left Dubai we used to visit Reef Mall if not more at least once a week.
