Another favourite walk from Warkworth beach around Birling Carrs along Buston Links to the Aln Estuary. A lovely sandy beach across the river to Alnmouth & lovely views upstream to the yachts moored in the Estuary. A return walk to Warkworth picnic site car park via the Alnmouth Dunes (a National Trust site) is a scenic alternative to retracing your steps along the beach.

A beautiful part of the County. The river Aln meanders its way around the valley passing cattle and the railway. Once it reaches Alnmouth it becomes a haven for wading birds and a cracking place to watch a sunset. The final stretch takes in sand dunes and Church Hill which the river originally flowed behind. My favourite estuary in the country.

This is a beautiful place so long as you don't mind paying the unreasonable parking charges. Not even a surfaced car park. Used to be free, then £1, last year £1.50 this year £2. If in a motorhome you'll need a mortgage £5 last year, £7 this year and no reduction for arriving in the...
