We returned for another short break stay at the Red Lion, which is our go too when we visit Northumberland and have lost count of the number of times we have stayed here. It had been 2 years since our last visit as we should have visited in 2024 but had to postpone due to family illness, which they facilitated for us without any fuss.||We went with friends and as it was their first visit to the Red Lon you are always apprehensive as they might not like a place as much as we do. However the trip didn't disappoint, it was just as good as ever to stay here and our friends loved it.||The rooms are well appointed and very clean, we stayed in Room 2 which is on the first floor facing the church and the one we prefer as it is large and spacious, however if the chiming of the church clock bothers you then maybe go for one of the rooms in the buildings to the rear. The breakfasts are plentiful and of very good quality and set you up the the day be it out walking or spending time on Alnmouth's large clean sandy beach.||The pub itself is great with a good selection of beers for real ale fans and has a large beer garden to the rear over looking the estuary, which we made good use of after a days walking as we luckily had 4 days of sunny weather. Unfortunately the pub is not doing evening meals at the moment, however they do have a pizza oven outside and offer them most days and the ones we tried were very tasty. There are other places to eat in the village if you are looking for dining in and the pub are happy to recommend some for you.||We would like to thank Georgie, Ben and the whole team for another lovely short break at the Red Lion. We will be...
Read moreI had heard a lot of good things about this place so decided to take my partner and daughter for a bite to eat before having a walk on the beach. Being a sunny Sunday afternoon it was already quite full in the bar area but we found a separate dining section which was signed 'Wait her to be seated', after a bit of waiting I went to the bar to ask one of the staff what the procedure was for getting a table, I was rudely told by the young Russian sounding girl that there was a private party booked in the other room. I found myself apologising and asking if we could sit outside to eat, which we could. It was only when we made the long walk to the beer garden and got seated that I had to walk back for menus. We were offered no menus to take with us, or drinks for that matter. Shockingly bad customer service which really does an injustice to how beautiful a location and a building this is. We left and went to the Masons Arms in Warkworth, which, after yesterday's experience, I would recommend to anyone reading this review and considering going to...
Read moreRecently stayed in the Travelodge just 20 minute walking distance from this pub, on a spontaneous trip away with my wife. Had a nice long walk then came across this place m for a quick drink. The quick drink turned into several drinks and a meal. The prices were decent, we were drinking Beavertown, Neck Oil - at £5.00 a pint, Leeds is at least £6 a pop. The food was incredible, my wife had the Mixed Grill, I had the Chorisa, Prawn & chicken grill - both very satisfied. We never got the lad's name behind the bar but his service was excellent, he's the reason we decided to stay in the first place (we visiting on the evening of 17th September 2024 if you need reference), so thank you to that lad. Fantastic find, will definitely be visiting again on one of our spontaneous trips...
